Colt Mark IV Series 70 Para Ordnance 1911

I have the chance to buy a Para Ordnance gun in .45 ACP with a colt slide on it with no mag. The price is $550. The gun has no mag but I was told it was a 15 stacked mag. How much would the CA legal 10 mag be to buy for it and is it worth it to buy this gun? The bore looks awesome. It would be for home defense and occassional range shooting.

Thanks for the help this will be my first pistol so I don't know much about them.

Hard to find 10 round , Ca legal , for the para full size. You'll need to find some that have been CalFixed.

Normal Para mags go for near $85 , but getting them into Cali is another problem.

And yes I do have a Para Ord 45 , no you can't " find" mine. I keep a very close eye on them since I doubt I can find anymore. Even have trouble finding re-build kits for them.

And mine is 100% Para , in 2 tone ( stainless frame , blued slide)

I do my best to avoid Franken-firearms for safety reasons.

Make sure you do the standard 1911 safety checks on that piece, for sure....and yes, mags are a pretty penny.

Back before Para-Ordnance built complete pistols, they sold the bare "widebody" frame kit with P-O specific parts (trigger, mag catch, plunger tube). You stripped your existing frame or bought the parts and installed them and the topend. This might be one of them.

If that is the case, it all depends upon who/how it was built. If the parts were just dropped in, it might work but is no better than the sum of its parts. If all the critical pin holes were gaged and parts fitted accordingly, it can be very nice. Though not having any mags makes it a real hassel.

Just looking at the pictures, this looks more like the former than the latter.

To echo what some have said, I'd avoid fraken-pistols altogether, especially since this is your first pistol, and it's a 1911.
