Anyone NP3??

Hey everyone. I was considering getting the Robar NP3 finish on my XD. Does anyone have experience w NP3 finish? or is there something better that I should look into? pros cons?

Just curious, but why? The melonite they use on the XD's is a great surface treatment.

I have roguard and np3 on my revolver, i love it, helps clean it a ton.

bought a gun a few years ago that previous owner already had NP3 on it:



NP3, according to Robar, is harder than hard chrome. For my experience, it was the easiest gun to clean. It's also very resistant to wear.

Beside the cost and wait, why not? it's a great finish!

I had this done a while ago. I used the gun for a back up and off duty. The finish show no wear.

Better for what? Your firearm already has an excellent coating. I don't see the point of stripping a perfectly good finish (and I'm sure your gun never sees the inside of a holster) for more expensive finish that gives no appreciable functionality. Instead of wasting your money you can give it to me and I'll spend it ammo and range time.

Robar's NP3 and NP3 Plus is the best IMO for protecting and preserving a firearm
. My first pistol sent for NP3 finishing was a much used Glock 17. While the factory finish is tough the flat finish wears and shows up as polished spots. I realize this is just cosmetic but I appreciate a good looking as well as a good functioning pistol. The job turned out beautiful. Did the slide and barrel. The coating is tough and corrosion resistant. I dropped my Glock on a steep concrete driveway where it slid down 10 ft. I was sick. Retrieved the Glock and was shocked it had no scratches on the slide whatsoever just some on the butt of the polymer frame. I rarely oil the barrel because of the lubricity of the Teflon matrix. I pretty much neglect the slide too and have not seen any corrosion. I highly recommend NP3 if your interested in a great looking corrosion protected firearm.

Oh yeah! In the early 80's I saw plenty of Series 70 1911s, S&W 19s & 27s, Colt Pythons and plenty of WW2 Pistols sent in to get, 'Refinished'.

Gold coins at $200, or $300? Nawh.
