    30 day waiting period work arounds

    Regarding the 30 day waiting period work around;
    a) Does purchasing a firearm on layaway work?
    b) buying online in between your 30 days and by the time firearm is received by the FFL and you fill out the DROS paperwork your 30 days is up.

    I saw a hard to get Springfield 45, just in the middle of my 30 day waiting period.
    thanks

    You can buy as many handguns as you want, but they will have to wait in your FFL's safe until 30 days click off each time before you can start a new DROS. Face to face private party transfer is not under the 30 day rule. I have 3 in the stack right now.

      Find it used and do a PPT and you won't have to worry about the 30 days.

        You also can get a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) which will exempt you from any future 1 in 30 day purchases of handguns from an 01FFL.

          The screwed up thing is it's actually a 40 day wait. I bought a 45 and had the normal 30 day wait. No big deal, it's the law. I don't like it but....So I'm excited and say cool. I'll be back the 2nd to pick it up. That's when I was told that i would then have to wait 10 more days to pick it up. It has to be 30 days between the date the back ground check initiated and then it's the 10 wait. It pays to buy multiple at the same time. Had I bought it with the other, I could have picked it up in the 30 day window. Unfortunately I don't generally have that much at one time to drop a couple grand.

            both those methods work. I would just tell your ffl your 30 days isn't up yet and they will tell you how to buy it now and take possession down the road. I find every ffl has a different policy but they are all willing to help you make it work

              When I bought my 686 at the LGS, I noticed another gun there and said "Well, too bad it'll be gone in 30 days", the counter guy just said "Well, put down a deposit on it and we'll hold it for you". Seems reasonable and not a "work round" but it's a way to hold a gun for you.

                The 10-day clock and the 30-day clock start at the same instant - the time DROS is submitted to the CA-DOJ.

                But yes, to take possession would be 40 days later.
