Most easily found Pistol Caliber Ammo?

Hi, I am looking to buy my first ammo and I was wondering what you guys would recommend? I've shot a few different calibers and I'm not picky about which one I get, that is why I'm mainly focussing on which one ammo can easily be found for. That's why I'm wondering what type of caliber pistol you guys would recommend when it comes to ammo being available and ammo pricing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Right now most calibers are hard to find and expensive because of the panic buying/low stock. That said 9mm is/was a cost effective round that used to be easy to find.

These days? Probably .380, followed closely by 40 S&W. I also see 38 special, 357 mag and 44 mag around sometimes too.

The only places I see 9mm and 45 ACP are in real gun stores, at a premium cost.

In the longrun, 9mm will most likely be the most available and the cheapest ammo again. So it really depends on whether you're buying with a long term goal in mind, or whether you're buying to satisfy an immediate itch.

I would say .40 based on my experience lately.

Once we get past the panic, I would say 22 LR and, or 9 mm

The last handgun ammo I saw on a shelf was .38 Special at Turners for $29 per box. Before that I saw 45 colt, .44 special and I used to see .40. I haven't see anything else for a while now.

Turner's seem to the worst place for ammo in my area.

I concur with the .380 and .40 not cheap but available.

When I bought my first handgun in '08 all I knew was my budget for the gun and that it would be .45ACP. At the time .45ACP was hard to find and expensive when I found it.

Haven't been sorry. I did manage to find plenty of commercial ammo and eventually started handloading.

You should get the caliber you want. The ammo will take care of itself. If ya want a nine, get a nine. Fo'tay? Get that. Ammo availability comes & goes but you'll have the gun forever.

If you go big and $$$ is an issue, start handloading. It ain't rocket surgery.

.40 S&W seems easier to find now than either 9mm or .45 acp. Fewer people have .40s, so a little less demand.

haven't seen any .380, 9mm or .38/.357 in some time, but .45 ACP, .45 Colt .44 Mag and .40 seem to be pretty common in my travels.

Used to rely on reloading, only pistol bullets found at the LGS was hard lead, .429 (.44)
Most prolific centerfire pistol caliber would be the 9mm
