    Glock 19

I was talking to a friend of mine about guns the other day, and he mentioned that Glock 19's are going for outrageous prices these days. What's the fascinaton? I had one for a while, wasn't terribly impressed, and sold it.

It is a workhorse, Bruce. You can abuse it and it still works for you. I purchased one awhile back and LOVE it. Wouldn't sell it for anything.

It has a rep for dependability and reliability. There are ton's of aftermarket products and accessories. It's no nonsense, gotta go bang when I pull the trigger.

I have a Corolla. It starts when I turn the key and gets me where I need to go and home again. Doesn't need a whole lot of maintenance.

As for price, it's high these days (approx $579 for a G3 for us common CA folk) but so is everything else.

I already know the reputation of Glock, it's why that specific model is so popular that I curious about.

Until a few years ago, the G19 was one of a handful of guns that could be counted on to run under almost any conditions. There are some special ops guys who still swear by the gun, with the caveat that they've had theirs for a while. Some of those same guys express concerns about current production examples.

If you get a good one they are still good guns, however some unknown percentage of recent production (last three or four years?) exhibit erratic ejection issues. There are now fixes, most of the time, for this but it's an extra step.

Glock was not the first to build a polymer platform, but their genius was to provide it in an affordable and reliable combination. It's a shame they've drifted from the latter recently. There are some inherent compromises to hold the price down, and if the gun works for you in stock configuration and if you're willing to take a chance on getting a good one it's still a good value. For some of us, the aftermarket additions needed to get to preferred configuration negate any initial price advantage.

I just bought a brand new Gen 3 FDE Glock 19 for 618 out the door. The panic buying is pretty much over

It seems to me we're at the beginning of 'panic selling' where people are trying to unload their panic buys and make a profit before most LGS get their inventory restocked.

Still seeing used Glocks advertised for $700 but others are getting closer to the new retail price.

The only reason they started getting nuts in price is because of the panic buying and also the fact that Glock recently shut everything down for a few months to retool everything at the height of the panic. So you have panic buying on top of the manufacturer shutting down to retool. Very bad combo if you're in the market for one (I'm in the market for a G17 and am waiting patiently for Glock to get rolling with manufacturing).

Where did you hear this? I bought a G26 with a March 1 2013 test fire date.

I have seen G19 gen3 for around $550, $590 + dros otd, at three different shops this week, so, yes if you are willing to go out and look, there are better deals than in the sales section of this website.

I like the 19 over the 17, these are gen3s and I own both, just because of ergonomics, I have medium sized hands and the 19 just fits better, but I can certainly use a 17 effectively if given the need.

Glocks are the Honda Civic of the handgun world. Cheap, reliable, and tons of accessories.

I owned a G19 and a G17 before I started shooting all steel handguns (CZ's) and wish I would have kept the G17.

I just pulled my Glock 19 out of jail yesterday. I payed $624 out the door includes DROS and Tax. I've noticed that a good about of firearms have higher prices then normal but the glocks haven't gone up too much. LGS know that glocks won't stay on the shelves for that long because its a guaranteed sale. LGS won't hike up the price that much or sometimes not at all on things they know would sell definitely. Its better for them to make a sale then make no sale at all.
