Kimber Manufacturing, Poor Customer Service Experience. Thoughts?

Kimber Manufacturing, Poor Customer Service. I have been a life long advocate of Kimber Manufacturing and own or owned several of their 1911′s and rifles.

I read this story and was wondering how people still buy Kimbers after all the negativity surrounding them. I had a CS issue with them a few years back and I'm shocked to still see people plopping down their hard earned money for these things.

Any of you have bad experiences with them?

Any good experiences (and no, I don't want to hear "200 trouble free rounds" stories) ?

Does Kimber still only offer a 1 or 2 year warranty? Seems like everyone else and their mother offers free lifetime warranties with free shipping.

Hmmm... Never had to call them as I have never had any issues with my Kimbers... And yes, I have shot them a lot (relatively). One is over 2,400 rds and one is 750 rds. No issues and love them both.

Sorry to hear about your experiences. I am hopeful that mine will be pleasant should I need to deal with them.

Love Kimbers ~ Of the 5 I've owned, only one had to go home. I purchased a 7yr old very used Custom II that had some problems. Contacted Kimber & explained the problems with my used pistol. I sent her in & they damn near rebuilt her, all free of charge!!! Kimber is aces in my book!

The only negatives against Kimber that I've ever heard ~ are friend of a friend stories on the internet......... That said, I would never purchase anything Kimber above their TLE line, for the $, the next logical step being the TRP.

                  Love my Kimber.

Had FTE issue at the beginning. Called their CS and explained the issue to them and they provided the RMA# and free shipping label - simple as that. Once I got it back, have fired at least 2000+ rounds of mostly hand loads (leads and plated) with zero issues.

There are going to be haters of every kind of firearm manufactures out there. These haters are just the minority and do you think they will drive kimber out of business? Let's be real here.

kimbers are the most sold pistols at my LGS's I frequently visit. They just cannot stock them fast enough.

I am not sure exactly what you are going to get out of this thread. There are many similar threads out there on the internet already - just need to google it.

There CS sucks, bought my wife a kimber 1911 and had constant problems with FTF and FTE. This happened constantly over 200 rounds with five different shooters. Kimber CS said it was operator error and probably limp wrist. Explained same problem with different shooter, there response was send it back but there's probably nothing we can do for it!!

Sold it and bought something more reliable. You'd think with the cost of a Kimber they would take better care of there customers!!
California, love it or leave it....well after fifty years, sure am glad I left!

After reading his story, ive gained a better understanding of why some companies pursue public contracts over civil sales.

Its not Kimbers fault the owner was a klutz and dropped his $2000 firearm, resulting in it being damaged. The dictionary calls that operator negligence.

The Ron Cohen saga continues. Too bad Kimber couldn't completely revamp itself after he left for SIG. Regardless, I know other Kimber owners who have problems and a $2000 firearm simply should not have broken from a fall like this. At all. Heck, a Glock would have been just fine and they're $600.

I've had HORRENDOUS CS from Colts and Springfields, but rather than bore everyone and ***** about it writing articles in the internet, I just moved on.

And those negative experiences were not just with ONE sample from each maker but FOUR! I always give each manufacturer a chance and am always aware that PRODUCTION GRADE guns can/may have issues.

Nowadays I am a satisfied and happy owner of 2 Kimbers. Just my humble thought on the matter.

My experience with Kimber has been hit and miss. Of the 6 Kimbers owned by my friends and I three have had to go back to the factory right after purchase for a variety of issues. Of those, two were repaired correctly the first time and one had to go back for the same problem. Another Kimber was repaired by me for a friend.

On the other hand Kimber stood behind an external extractor Super Match II model with problems and replaced the entire top end with an internal extractor version well past the stated warranty period and it shoots better than ever (3/4" groups at 25 yards from a rest).

My problem with Kimber isn't that they can't build a great pistol, as they clearly can, but that they don't go that extra mile to do a little more quality assurance before releasing the pistol and also that the people you get on the phone are hit and miss.
