Does anyone have a feel for the value of a near NIB Smith & Wesson 4596?

    Thanks

      Thats mighty generous of you....

But, for $100, it will make a nifty paperweight!

Well, I can't give you a definitive value but I can give some background as I used to own one and every time I hear of one I'm strongly reminded of it.

My wife bought me a 4596 back in 1989 in Portland, Oregon and paid $750.00 for it but I'm sure she way overpaid for it. It was one of my first guns and she braved a snowstorm to pick it up and have it under the tree on Christmas for me. The 4596 is a special run of 500 from Lew Horton distributors and is basically a short barrel version of the 4506 with black hammer, trigger, and hammer drop safety. Mine was very accurate and fed anything I could shove in it as a beginning reloader.

Like a dumba#$ I traded that gun off for a 1911 because I thought they were cooler. Yes I kick myself every time I'm reminded of that gun and I truly wish I could get it back, but I don't even have the serial number anymore. I don't so much want the gun, I just wish I hadn't let such a great gift from my wife get away from me.

I'd say the value is probably about the same as a 4506 or a 4516. Good luck with the sale.
