    shooting old bullets?

Is this safe? I found a box of Blazer Brass that has to be 7yrs old. A couple of the bullets have sunk into the cartridge slightly. They all look really dirty.I want to shoot them . Is this safe?

What about a bullet that has begun to sink into the cartridge?

Throw those out or pull them for the components if you reload. If they're sinking in then there's a possibility of dangerous over pressure

I would love to tell you its dangerous and I am a certified-able old ammo disposal technician who will take it off your hands and dispose of it properly for no charge. But that's not true, well maybe the certifiable part. However Most ammo doesn't really expire based on my unofficial research of putting it in my gun and it firing.

In your case 7 years is nothing. When I cleaned out my grandpa's garage after his passing I shoot a lot of the stuff he had and that was at least 30+years. My Dad has tons of ammo that's at least 20 years old and I shoot that from time to time. Don't get me wrong I do a quick visual inspection but as long as it looks normal I shoot it. One thing I always notice with the really old stuff is its a little dirtier and smokier but it works.

I have shot WWII ammo with no issues. I would NOT shoot the rounds sinking into the brass.

The oldest I shot was from the 1930s

The 7.62x54r surplus I got is from the 1950s as is the surplus Garand 30-06 ammo

As longs as the brass is in good shape- ok to shoot
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Me and my pops shot my grandpa's .38 special reloads dated 1962 and no problems. I agree with above - quick visual inspection and shoot em

How does a bullet sink into the case?

Well it is from being chambered in a pistol. I saw a lot of that when people, i.e. tried to load a JHP into a WWII era 1911A1. The cartridge nosed dived into the feed ramp and the bullet is pushed back into the case. So I am betting that 7 year old ammo is 45 ACP, 9mm, 380 or something for a autoloader.
