I recently picked up a Sig MK25 and am impressed with the firearm. I cleaned it thoroughly and applied lubrication as specified, but haven't fired it yet. The slide is a bit loose on the frame and when I shake it enough, it begins to rattle. This is my first Sig and second firearm, my first being a Beretta M9A1 and have never encountered a rattling firearm before. Is this normal or should I contact Sig?

I just sold my Navy (not MK25), and it was rattle free, perfect fit between slide and frame.Comment

That's a bold statement. Based on how many samples that you have personally owned? In case you haven't noticed, there were no one piece stainless slides back in the 80's, and IMO that was an improvement.Comment

I don't believe it should rattle. That will make a lot of extra wear when firing if some part is bouncing around. Is it the barrel? That is definitely not supposed to happen.
I have an american born sig and it doesnt rattle.Don't forget to shop at Amazon through Shop42a.com. Up to 25% of every purchase you make through Shop42a.com goes back to help fight for your gun rights.

He's correct. The only Sig I've owned that rattles is my US made Sig. My W German and German Sigs lock up like a vault. This isn't just conjecture either, check out the Sig Forum. I would not pay half of what the new US made Sigs are going for.
For MANY MANY people the switch to stainless ruined the balance of the gun and I agree with that as well. I much prefer the feel of the stamped and welded slides.
That being said my US made Sig is accurate and reliable even if it rattles and uses mim parts.Comment

Over a dozen, both aluminum and stainless. The German guns are tighter and better made.Comment

I owned a West German P220 in the 90's, it was nice, except for the weak finish. I recently owned a Navy for a short time, TIGHT. I have handled a least a dozen US made P226's in the shops, and never found one that rattles, not to say that there aren't any that do rattle. I would venture to say that a little rattle could possibly make the gun MORE reliable, yes, MORE. Yes, the stainless slide added weight, but it hugely inhibits corrosion, and a milled one piece slide is inherently stronger than a two piece stamped slide with a welded on nose piece. Not that German models fail, its just that US made models are updated and made to more modern standards.Comment
