I bought mine new back in the 1990's it's chambered for .45 Colt, it's a really nice revolver. Not as accurate as it could be due to chamber throats measuring .458" and the propensity of the barrel to lead heavily with plain base cast bullets, but it is entirely satisfactory. At one time shooters were buying spare .44 Magnum cylinders and having them rechambered to .45 Colt with properly sized throats. Then I am finicky, being used to cutting the 10 ring out of a target at 25 yards with specially prepared single action .45 Colt SSA's and Rugers, and cleaning the rams at 200 meters. I ditched the original rear sight, exchanging it for a Champion brand Eliason sight clone without the white outline. A little sight black on that horrid red ramp front sight and I'm good to go.
The early .44 Magnum Anacondas were withdrawn from the market due to bad barrels, they just wouldn't shoot. After Colt investigated the barrel problems the revolvers were again released with a new barrel design. The other problem was that the ejector rod would unscrew during firing locking up the cylinder. A little blue locktite cures this problem.
Here is an article written by John Taffin back when they were introduced: http://www.sixguns.com/range/anaconda.htm
I would like to see Colt get back in the civilian revolver market with a high quality double action offering, and the Anaconda would fit the bill.Comment
