I have read that early Colt python barrels had a different thread pattern than later models. Anyone know about this? Also, who is considered to be a top rated Colt revolver smith in California or western U.S.

I don't know about the barrels, but I do know the smith. Guy named Grant Cunningham in West Linn, OR, outside of Portland. He is so good he had to shut down his waiting list last year as he was booked for a year+ in advance. Check out his site, read the info about him, and watch for him to open his list.
