    Springfield 1911 TRP Trigger Question

I just picked up a brand new TRP and got to take it out to the range today. Trigger breaks very clean, but seemed quite heavy.

Got back, cleaned the gun and put it on my trigger scale breaks between 6-6.5 lbs. Springfield claims it's suppose to break at 4.5-5 lbs

Wanted to see if anybody else with a TRP has noticed this or has talked to Springfield/sent it back for work and had this fixed? Or is Springfield just advertising incorrectly? (I would hate to send it to Springfield right after I picked it up and then have it returned to me without any improvement)

I know the ILS is suppose to make the trigger a bit heavier, and there's a lot of things you can do to lighten the trigger. However, I don't want to do a bunch of stuff to it just to get it to where it's suppose to be out of the box.

Ha, interesting. I've never measured but have always assumed it was between 4 and 5 lbs. I have been happy with the trigger though and compared to my other 1911's, I don't feel that it's heavier.

Anyways, thought I would share this video. Hickok45 raves about the TRP's trigger. I agree that the trigger breaks clean.

If that trigger breaks at 6lbs, you need to call Springfield and send the pistol in for warranty service.

I have a SA 1911 loaded and recently purchased a SA 1911 9mm. I detail strip both of them and clean up/lightly polish all the contact surface between the frame and the trigger, frame and the hammer, sear and hammer, and disconnector. Then lightly oil all the parts and it make a difference in weight of the pull. I didn't mess with the leaf spring or the contact angle of the sear and hammer since I have no knowledge of how to properly adjust them. The trigger breaks clean on both of my sample of SA 1911 and I must say it feels better than some TRP that I've handled in the pass.

I did find quite a bit of metal shavings left over from the firing pin channel in the slide and I was not happy about it.

I definitely agree. If it's out of spec they'll make it right on their dime.

SA sends them out lawyer heavy ~ But 6.5lbs seems excessive & unacceptable on a TRP!

Mine isnt 6lbs that is for sure. I would say mine is probably in the range of 4.5-5lbs just like it should be.

Send it in if you dont like it, they will fix it.

If you haven't detail stripped it, I would do that and check everything out and clean all the parts and put a very light coat of oil. Check the pull again after to see if there is any change. If its still the same, give SA a call. It shouldn't leave the factory that high.

Not sure where it was when it was new, but after 1,000 rounds and who know how much dry firing, my Loaded is at 4.8 lbs. it varies from just under 4.5 to about 5 lbs.

Plus 1 on Hickok45's video on the TRP. I love it! It was fun to watch him put round after round on the plates.

I actually measured mine the other day and it breaks at 4 lbs. 12 ounces.

Mine felt heavy when new, but after break in, it came in between 4 1/2 and 5.
