    cosignment purchase: yay or nay?

I don't like the idea of not knowing anything about the previous owner. Buying used on calguns or even gunbroker, you can ask the previous owner detailed questions. Huge plus.what are the pros of buying items on cosignment?

The pro's are they're there and ready to purchase, you don't have to exchange phone calls or emails and also they're exempt from the states 1 handgun in 30 days law as they're considerred PPT.

Many of my favorite handguns have been consignment purchases! If theres a make/model you are interested in I'm sure some of us may be able to give you some pointers on what to look for.

Additionally, don't LGS verify the safety and functionality of guns that go through their shops due to possible liability issues?

        Besides the ones above,

One advantage: it's there in front of you. You are not looking at pictures. You can check it out for yourself. You can buy or walk away.

Another advantage: used gun price, so normally cheaper than brand new

One more: off-roster okay. I bought one on consignment that was off roster and everything checked out

Picked up a couple of weapons over the years through Turners.
The bad, you pay sales tax and there is no negotiation with the seller.
The good, if you shop carefully you find decent deals.

The shop has the owners info. They may be willing to call the owner and ask questions for you.. I have had a shop do it in the past.

Not always true. The seller has already told the dealer his rock bottom price, which is not always the price the dealer is selling it for.

Agreed, I don't think I've ever paid the sticker price on a consignment handgun, they've always negotiated with me on price.

Love used guns! Little discontinued finds at great/good prices keep me up at night

Most buy a firearm and put it in the safe, shoot little, and when the next "must have" comes around they sell at a discount..... Know what to look for in a used firearm & you can make out like a bandit!

just inspect it carefully and take it apart - sometimes you learn more that way

Yes. Less astute owners sell by consignment and the LGS can make a bundle. That is why you need to haggle. As for the gun itself, unless you are buying from a calguns member with perfect feedback, you never know!

It's not a mystery. Pick it up, take it apart. Any wear or problems should be evident. I'd feel way more comfortable buying a used gun than a used car.

An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero
