How light is too light for a trigger pull?

I've been doing some more work on my CZ97b and really tuning the trigger to the point of bench rest numbers. It has a 2lbs brake, zero creep at the wall, brakes like glass and a reset that is about 1/16th. These are with the stock heavy springs too. I have a lighter mainspring and FP spring which brings the pull to just over 1lbs. I have not shot it yet in either config but that 1lbs trigger with a SUPER short reset scares me a bit. Keep in mind that this is a range only gun built for accuracy and speed but I don't want it to bump fire a few rounds of 45acp and put a hole in the range roof.

In your guys opinion whats too light?

As long as you retain proper sear and hammer engagement, it is difficult to speculate on what's too light, but if you can drop the pistol without the sear disengaging the hammer, you should be ok. Personally, I would not venture below 2lbs on a single-stage trigger, or below 1.5lbs on a two-stage trigger.

I had a Mark series Ruger with a sub-2lbs trigger, and it was very consistent. My 1911 breaks at 2lbs, and my AR breaks at 1.75lbs with a Geissele trigger.

You haven't shot it yet? How do you know it won't double? If your gun is unsafe you will be kicked off the range. And what trigger pull gage did you measure it with? What are bench rest numbers?

I don't know if it will bump, i've never taken a pistol below 2.5lbs and had such a short reset but I have AR triggers that are setup very much the same and if i'm not careful It will 3-rd burst on me. I'm using a Lyman digi scale to test my weights. I have drop tested it on carpet from 5 feet and the hammer and sear are solid.

I guess I'll just load 2 rounds in the pistol for 25+ rounds and see if it doubles on me. Wish me luck this weekend

A light trigger pull and assault shovels scare me!
On the bench is one thing, but carring a pistol in a holster is another for me.

Any handgun trigger less than about 3lbs is a significant "bump fire" risk with anything heavier than a .22. I believe that the only shooting discipline that allows true "hair triggers" is Int'l Free Pistol which uses single-shot pistols.

Light triggers are fine for the shooting range, but I wouldn't carry a combat handgun with much less than about a 5lb trigger. There is a big enough risk in a confrontation of "shooting when you don't intend to shoot" already and I want a clear signal that the gun is about to fire.
