S&W Prelock?

Here's my 686-5 how do you tell if it's a prelock? Sorry about the crappy pics!

Its a pre-lock with MIM parts. The lock would be right above the thumb piece.

Just like Kurac says. Pre lock, MIM parts, frame mounted firing pin. The lock would be a small hole in the frame just above the cylinder release. Nice revolver. c good

I believe the 686-4 were the last to have the forged hammer and trigger and the firing pin on the hammer. The 686-5 were the beginning of the mim hammer and trigger and the frame mounted firing pin. The 686-6 was the beginning of the locks.

Unless there's some sort of photo shopping - as in "this is a test" - then yes I say it is a pre - lock, with what is obviously a MIM hammer. I have the same set up in a 657. MIM internals with frame mounted firing pin, no lock. I scrapped the new type thumb latch for an oldie.

Yeah I have a NIB 4" Model 19-? that is a transitional gun also; MIM parts but no lock.

This obsession with P&R, pre-lock, and non MIM S&W must stop. It's raising the prices on older S&W revolvers. (with the night at the roxbury tune in the back ground) STOP IT!

Ahhhh... Yes! My latest S&W score is an 8" 586 no dash. I get to pick it up in 9 days.
