    10 day waiting period

I tried to do a lot of searching on Google but there is no clear answer to when the 10 day waiting period begins for people who buy a gun over Internet.

Maybe experts here can shed some more light.

Do people need to wait 5-10 days for the gun to be in their FFL hand?
OR they can start the DROS right away after the gun is shipped and on the way to FFL?

Wait period begins when you start the transfer at your FFL.

My FFL, too, insisted that we can't DROS until the gun is in his hand. So it'll be 17 days ( 7 days shipping + 10 day CA waiting) waiting for me.

7 days shipping? Where did you order it from, China? Is it coming by boat? Or is this some kind of rifle that takes longer than handguns?

My pistol arrived thurs and I can't start my dros till next wk because my ffl left town. The whole process is annoying.

I have a question, what happens to a firearm that is sent to the ffl, but the customer dies somehow.who would get the gun under those circumstances? Is it a way for the family of the purchaser to sell the gun?

I have DROS'd a shotgun before it was in the shop, no serial number required for long gun, but it got delayed and arrived 2 days before the 30 day run out, so it was close to the re DROS process, I am sure my FFL would have covered the cost for re DROS, but would not have been happy about it. The next time I ordered with them, they waited to submit DROS until the rifle was delivered to the shop, just to make sure, I was cool with that and they just let me know when the 10 day wait was up.

It is often a tricky situation, the right thing is that it becomes part of the deceased parties estate and they can resell it. I have seen similar things go awry though most notably when a FFL died without warning and it caused a lot of people problems.

I can imagine. My ffl went oversees out of the blue and it's causing me some frustration.

I asked my question because the gun doesn't even seem like it's my property. Seems like the ffl owns it until the dros is complete.

Mine started as soon as the out of state sellers received the fax of the FFLs proof of license. So I payed over the phone. Went to my FFL and started paperwork and DROS as they faxed there license. They called the seller to confirm they got the fax. Then they shipped the same day with 2 day shipping

Hopefully, this time will be much faster than last time. I had to wait almost 30 days to get my Glock 34.

First, the LGS accidentally sold my gun to someone, had to wait for the next shipment. They also refused to start DROS unless the gun is in the shop.

Then more delay because they lost my DROS paperwork (twice!)

Bought mine within the state but online. 10 day started after my FFL did the DROS.

They are just brokering the transfer, acting as a middleman. Your contract (sale) is between you and the seller, which is why you pay the seller and not the FFL dealer.
