    225/ 239 Sig question

anyone here have both a 225/p6 and a 239 in 9mm? Im curious about how different / similar they actually are... I really like shooting and handling the 225... it has the characteristics of an excellent carry/personal defense weapon.

I've always wanted a 239, but will having a 225 already be pretty much the same thing?

A friend of mine had a 229 for years but always wanted a 228... when he finally got his 228, he was toen between the two (after deliberating, he finally sold the 229)... would I end up in a similar situation with these two single stack comapct Sigs?

In comparison to the standard size P220, the P225 is not that much smaller. However, the P239 is noticeably and feels smaller than either the P220 and P225.

I did own a P239 before and currently own a P225/P6. To me, the P239's grip is slimmer and feels like holding a cone due to the contour around the decocker while the grip of the P225 is thicker, but feels more comfortable.

My suggestion is hold each one and you decide which one feels better for you.

      P239 slightly smaller

I own a P239 in 9mm and have handled the P225. I went to the Genitron website and looked up the specs on the two guns. This is what I found:

      P239: weight=27.5 oz., barrel=3.6 in., length=6.6 in., height=5.1 in., width=1.2 in., magazine capacity=8.

      P225: weight=28.9 oz., barrel=3.9 in., length=7.1 in., height=5.2 in., width=1.3 in., magazine capacity=8.

So the two guns are very similar in size, with the P239 being slightly smaller. Both hold the same number of 9mm rounds. Of course, the P239 is also available in .40 and .357 Sig calibers, while the P225 is only 9mm. The P239 is also available in the DAO DAK trigger or the conventional DA/SA, while the P225 is only DA/SA.

It comes down to a matter of personal preference with two very similar guns.

        Thanks BHPfan and Miltiades...

Yeah, I'm gonna have to maybe try each one before I decide... as far as the DAO and DAK triggers go, I'm not a fan of either set up. I went to brands like CZ and SIG because of their DA autos.

Here I found images of them both...

I have both in 9mm and I agree, both the P225 and P239 are relatively similar in size. For me, the P239 seems to be built a bit more sleek. IMO, if I were to carry concealed, P239 would be more comfortable for everyday carry.

In regards to shooting, both are similar but the P239 has a bit more bite. Both are accurate and both feel very comfortable in my medium-size hands. I think where the advantage would be is the magazines available for the P239 versus the hard-to-find and a little more expensive P225/P6s.

Oh the horror...your friend should have kept the P229.

I have the P228 as well as a few P229 in .40 S&W, .357SIG, and .9mm Bar-Sto barrel. If I had to choose between the P6, P228, P229, or the P239, my personal choice would be the P228.

Have both and a little P245. I like the 225 because its a bit more accurate and i can still hide it. The 239 is more sleek and carries alot better though.
One other reason to carry the P225 is that I can lose it and it will still be cheap to replace. The 239, 245 or USPc.. no so much.

For me though if i'm forced to carry, I carry a RIA Officer or the P245. Knock down punch.

Just don't ask me about the USPc....

Funny you should mention the 245... It's my fave compact... but I have to admit it's not as quick on the follow up as the 225 for me. Sadly, I have not been practicing with .45 as much with the cost of ammo skyrocketing.

different animals not the same feel at all

The 239 has a much narrower grip. The 239 frame is available in 9mm/40sw/357 sig. if you buy the 40 or 357, you can buy a bbl to swap calibers. The old 239 mags in 40/357 are the same. The new generation mags for the 2 cals are unique (groove in the 357) so they do not swap. Sucks. The 225 feels more like a 229 or 226. I have both on the shelf 4 sale if you want to check them out.

IMHO, the P6/225 feels great in the hand (feels more organic), while the P239 feels a bit blockier, however the 239 has a much nicer DA pull. Their SA pulls are very similar (both are sweet).

Both in terms of aesthetics and mechanical design, the P6/225 is like a small, 9mm, classic stamped slide P220 and the P239 is like a smaller, single stacked P229.
