    Springfield XD Pistol 40. problems

New gun, and its got a weird problem. Now Im hoping its just me doing it and I don't notice.

But when shooting the gun a few times it has acted like it was empty, but there were still bullets in it. The gun slides back, but there are bullets.

Maybe my finger hitting sometimes while I fire, but I just thought I would ask here real quick. It keeps shooting after that, so... I dunno what the problem could be.. Dunno

If I need to be more specific tell me, Im not sure how to explain it beside to say that it only happens once in awhile. So is it prob just the way im holding the gun?

I dont see any problems with the gun, any glaring scratches or anything. It seems perfect.

More than likely your thumb is putting pressure on the slide release. Just practice your hold at home with snap caps. See if you need to modify your grip on it.
I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

    and

If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck".

I don't know about the XD but on my glock if I don't sit the round back in the mag when I am loading it, it won't load the round and the slide will lock back.

do snap caps actually make the slide move back and eject/chamber a round? i've never used them.

Are you using factory ammunition or reloads? Sounds like the slide isn't being pushed back far enough to chamber a new round from the magazine? Might be the recoil spring is too stiff since the gun is new?

Snap caps don't do that since there is no propellant. It merely mimics the look of a bullet to feed correctly while allow the firing pin to hit something soft. They are used for training and to protect the firing pin and breech face.
