I have a glock 19 and I would like to upgrade my sights to red dot. Anyone have any recommendations on this upgrade? What sights are affordable, yet quality? All help greatly appreciated!

GLOCK UPGRADE

Red dot sights on a pistol are not affordable. Unless you consider $500 for the sight alone and who knows how much more to machine the slide and have mounted. If you want faster, more durable sights, my suggestion is 10-8 rear with a fiber optic front. If your heart is set on a red dot, look at the Trijicon RMR.sigpic
George Washington didn't use the 1st amendment to defeat the British...he shot them.

Jim Grover AKA Kelly McCann has been running a red dot on his glock for 10+ years. He has one in the Inside the Crucible DVD set.
You can get a smith to mill the slide to lower the sight for about $100
If you just drill and tap the slide the red dot will sit way above the sights. Milling the slide will put the dot inline with suppressor (tall) sights.
Gabe at Warriortalk was pushing the concept and was also selling the milled slides at One Source tactical. He even got bladetech to make a modified holster for the Glock / RMR combo
At typical pistol engagement distances, it might slow you down. For 25 yards + they seem to help a lot of shooters.
you will need to train with the RMR and have a very high presentation in counts 2&3 of you drawstroke to pick up the dot as quickly as possible
How is your pistol going to be used?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

And all you guys think us Glock guys are the "fanboys" that start this crap. Every single Glock thread that gets posted, has more than one XD, M&P, Sig, CZ, 1911 etc FANBOY making stupid comments like this. Go shoot whatever you like to shoot, and let everyone else do the same. This joke is old and tired, find some new material...Comment

If I was going to mount a red dot on one of my Glocks, it would without a doubt be the Trijicon RMR. It ain't cheap, but depending on what your plans are with this gun, it could be worth every penny. The two major players in RMR slides are TSD and L&M Precision.

You can also do this with an RMR. They make a mount that uses the factory rear dove tail.
But you will want to have iron sights with the reflex sight. It will make dot acquisition faster and eliminate 'losing' the dot when trying to acquire sight picture. I discuss this issue in my link posted earlier in this thread.

Thanks everyone for the information thus far. Seems to be pretty expensive to go red dot. I am basically looking for faster, more durable sights. I don't plan on selling my gun at any point in the future so I suppose paying the money for red dot wouldn't necessarily be a bad investment. Timmyb21 have you shot the 10 8 rear with a fiber optic front? If so what are your thoughts? What is the price difference. Thanks again for all the help guys!Comment

10 8 rear and fiber optic front is the best set up IMO. There's a reason why almost all comp shooters shoot with a finer optic front and a plain black rear. It's the fastest and least busy sight picture.Comment

Yea, everybody thinks a red dot will turn them into a Grand Master over night, it won't. They are much harder to learn than iron sights, especially the first shot. I put over 6,000 rounds thru my Open Glock before deciding that it's just too much trouble and I would never use it for carry anyway. They do have an advantage on B zone plates at 40 yards. Trijicon Red Dot (now discontinued)
