Changing from E2 to Stand Black Polymer grips on p226

    Hey Calguns Members,
I will be looking to purchase a p226 from the WTS or WTB section on our forums here in a month or two and had a question about the grips.

I haven't quite decided on the standard black polymer sig grips or getting the new E2. Now I know that when changing from standard to E2 I need some extra parts such as the decocking lever, hammer strut, etc. Is there a kit with all necessary original parts for changing back to standard if the p226 already comes with E2?

    Thank you all in advance.

If your 226 has the E2 grips, you don't really need to change out all the other parts to go back to the polymer grips. All you need are the new polymer grips and grips screws.

Wouldn't the de-cock lever and such be out of place?

The hammer strut assembly won't matter as SIG is switching to the new style strut system. As for the decocking lever, I think the tab that glides up and down the surface tab grip is actually smaller. If you were to use a non E2 decocking lever, you will notice that the tab surface area is larger (which looks like it would grind with a E2 grip).

So, if I understand correctly, having the standard grips with the E2 setup will only differ with regard to having a smaller decocking lever that is potentially spaced farther from the grip?

I think new decocking levers are like $7 or something at Top Gun Supply... if you want the original.

E2 decocking levers work fine with regular grips. I run an E2 decocker with Hogue g10s with my main Sig.

The only difference between the levers is that the E2 one sticks out a little farther.

Put 2 Sigs with different levers right next to each other and unless you know what to look for you won't tell the difference.

The E2 kits include a current decocker lever. There have been several variants of them over the years. There is nothing E2 specific about decocker levers.

The new hammer strut assembly is actually ideal to keep in the pistol for a few reasons. One being you can switch back to the E2 grip if need be without switching out the strut assembly, the 2nd is that the E2 hammer strut assembly actually gives you an improved double-action pull.

I've done this swap over for a lot of people before. The E2 clamshell comes off, the 2 piece grips and 4 grip screws go on. Super simple.
