Ruger SR45 Impressions

Let me start by saying that I am a life long Glock guy. I have owned Glock pistols since I was 21 y/o.

Well.....I have to say that I am impressed with the Ruger! I have tried the Glock 21, Springfield XD .45, Ruger P90 and P97 and could not find .45 happiness. That might have changed.

Overall the pistol is very will made and the gun fits the hand very well. Although it is about the same size as my Glock 20, it feels much more like my 17. I used the curved back strap and it fits my hand just right.

The trigger is simply amazing. I can't wait to shoot some rounds through it this weekend.

I was concerned about loading the magazine, but found I could easily load all 10 rounds without the use of the loading tool. However the magazines are difficult to seat when fully loaded. I have loaded them up and will let sit for a couple of days.

Off to the desert on Saturday to shoot. I will post an update when I get back.

Worked with an SR40 today and thought it was not too bad but not as good as my Glocks. My friend says it is a pain to field strip.

I have an SR9c and a couple other rugers I like em but for my .45 I'm stickin by my Glock 21sf.

I have not gotten my hands on an SR45 yet, but I am very familiar with the SR pistol line and they are extremely EASY to field strip. (I have 3 SR40cs). Cannot understand the comment on this thread to the contrary. The SRs are a snap to disassemble and reassemble.

Agreed.

I can field strip an SR45 easier than an XD, S&W Sigma or Glock. Glocks and Sigmas are the same here...they are actually pains in the arse with those small things to press down. I have one good hand, the same hand racks the slid as has to press those tiny things down that. Now certainly with two good hands it would be easier, but the SR 45 is easier for me.

For the SR-45 you of course unload it and clear the chamber. You lock the slide back, push the ejector rod down, and remove a single pin, which is easy (no small tool needed, a pencil would work, use the eraser end). Release the slide and it comes off. Pull the recoil spring and barrel, there you go. With the Glock you have to pull back just a little on the slide and press down those tiny releases. So fewer steps, but one that requires more dexterity

I - like other Ruger owners - don't understand this comment at all. It's actually easier to field strip an SR-series Ruger than a Glock, XD or M&P.

I just field stripped the SR a few times to see if it bothered me. While it is different than my Glock pistols, it is not more difficult. In fact I would say it is quite simple.

Then your friend has some problems, I can field strip mine in under 10 seconds and I only picked it up tuesday.

I got out there and put a 150 rounds through it. I would have shot more, but the wind was blowing about 40 mph out there this weekend. The gun ran great and ate up 100 rounds of CCI Blazer and 50 rounds of black box Wolf. I could not do any accuracy testing because of the wind, but on informal targets it hammered with ease. I found the magazines easy to load with no loading tool. It is a very soft shooting gun! I shoot a lot of 9mm, .45, and 10mm. This is the softest shooting .45 I have ever shot. Not sure why, but it is really soft on the hand. There were no malfunctions of any kind and the gun was subjected to a couple of hours in the blowing dust and sand. I know that it is not really a long term test or testament, but so far it is a real winner.

I forgot to mention the trigger. It is great! I fired 50 rounds with the mag safety out and could not tell the difference. It is very easy to transition from other striker fired platforms and is very light and crisp.

I just took my SR45 to the range a few days ago, and the trigger is awesome. When I handed it to my husband I remarked that he should take note of the trigger. IT IS SO EASY AND SMOOTH! I'm taking it to the range today. Can't wait.

I can take down my SR9c quickly, but an XD? Way faster(doesnt even matter)
