Ruger LC9 possible issue

I haven't handled or shot any if the new Rugers until yesterday. A friend brought an unfired but used LC9 to the range. The problem was with a loaded mag, or unloaded mag and safety off the gun would not fire/ dry fire. I could pull the trigger with no resistance and no movement of the hammer. I thought well maybe I have to reck the slide, but that didn't work either. I've got a lot of experience with other auto loading pistols but never an LC9 and very little with an LCP. I've got an old P85 but that doesn't count. Any ideas. I have no background on the gun other than that it is second owner unfired.

Sounds like the trigger won't reset. I had this problem with mine when I put in the Galloway short trigger reset bar - I had to send the bar back to them for additional modification because the tolerances in the gun are pretty loose and none of them are the same dimensionally internally. If possible, dissassemble and check the trigger bar - the Galloway bars have a second hole in them where the bar connects to the trigger.

Please note - I am NOT bashing Galloway in any form - they make great products. The LC9 just has some very loose tolerances, and some of them require custom work to make the aftermarket parts function.

So what would cause this on a stock unfired LC9?

Maybe the trigger is locked? I've never used it but they do have a lock built into them.

Good point. There is a lock on that gun. Could be engaged. Use a key that comes with the gun or a glasses screwdriver set to see if you can disengage.

To engage the internal lock, rotate the key clockwise 1/4 of a rotation.
To deactivate, rotate the key counter- clockwise 1/4 of a rotation.

NOTE: With internal lock engaged, trigger will move freely and will not function."

Let me know if your buddy didn't get the key with the gun and can't get it unlocked. I know I have mine here somewhere and as I mentioned I never use it (stupid feature IMO) - ill send him mine if its needed.
