Front Sight 4 Day Handgun Review

My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with. -
I went in March and I am going again with my wife in May. I thoroughly enjoyed the instruction. I either re-learned or improved everything I knew about handguns.
I plan on taking their rifle & shotgun classes later this year. Additionally, I want to be able to take all the advance classes in handgun/rifle/shotgun.
Also, in August they will be offering an XD Armorer's course which I plan to attend.
In my limited experience, FrontSight is a great experience, value, and worthwhile.Comment

Wow sorry your thread got so off track. I would love to hear more about your adventure as well as your thoughts about the 229, G17 and the 1911.
Just wondering though, being in Nevada why were you afraid to use the 15 round mags? Crossing the border maybe? Just curious gorging out. LolComment

i'm super drugged up at the moment, but i added a bunch of stuff as promised. i hope it is all semi-coherent. feel free to ask me any questions!
Also, with classes, be honest with yourself about how good you really are. If some crazy person was to run at you with a knife, how fast and accurate are you really? Perfect the basics before going after moving targets etc. Those who say the FS training was no good, how many of you are distinguished graduates? i will say the shooting portion for the skills test is easy when not-timed, but time pressure and weather changes everything.Comment

I can verify that hossb7 is being honest as I've taken an intermediate/advanced class with him previously thru www.pistol-training.com and he was one of the better students in the class. There's no reason to get offended that some people do not like or prefer FS, there's too many reputable instructors I'd rather train with than FS personally.Last edited by Shenaniguns; 04-12-2013, 10:57 AM.My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.Comment

Yea i was hoping that this thread would not become some FS bashing thing. My experience ws incredible. The instructors are amazing and really observant. They will help you. Even with your isosceles stance. Just keep an open mind and don't be a hard headed idiot. Nobody is perfect. There is ALWAYS room for improvement. The only perfect gunner is chow yun fat okay. Dual wielding with his unlimited ammo magic guns. That guy... So unless you are chow yun fat or chuck norris or elite military....Wow sorry your thread got so off track. I would love to hear more about your adventure as well as your thoughts about the 229, G17 and the 1911.

The only negative about being a FS member is their marketing strategy and all that stupid email you get from dr. Pizza. Seriously dr. pizza? THE LAST TIME?
BACK ON TOPIC:
Why not use your 17 rounders? I just assemble and dissassemble my 17 round mags in nevada. I don't really like the Gen 1 mags though as they don't drop free. Also, it's good to practice more tactical reloads etc anyway. for the class, 10 round mags are not a limiting factor. (there are those running revolvers right?)
If anyone knows how i can make my gen 1 mags drop free, please let me know!!
For my adventures with my three pistols, I am likely going to sell my Sig. I love it, but I just don't have the time to master three platforms. Also, having a high grip on a sig virtually disables the slide lock.
Although, i do think that the sig platform is probably the safest in preventing negligent discharges, I think as a civilian it is easiest to master a striker fire pistol first. I will also start running my 1911 from the holster but until i get more practice with it, i cannot really comment on 1911 vs striker fire.Comment

Thats great, i'm sure you guys have nothign to learn at FS, but this is my FS thread to share my FS experience and i really cannot comment on any other courses. Please exercise some restraint in stroking your own egos. I'm not offended at all. As a civilian, I think advanced pistol training is really unnecessary anyway. if **** really hits the fan, my pistol is just a means to get me to one of my rifles or my benelli m4.I can verify that hossb7 is being honest as I've taken an intermediate/advanced class with him previously thru www.pistol-training.com and he was one of the better students in the class. Sorry, I was answering the question you asked about if he was a distinguished graduate which I don't know but was backing a friends ability up since it was in question. As a civilian I think being proficient with a handgun is more important as it's most likely the firearm that most use, especially those that do have the ability to carry concealed. My holstered Glock 19 that's on me when I leave my home serves me better than my AR that's in my safe at home.
But anyways, back to your FS review. My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.Comment

I disagree with you. How are the classes designed for striker fired pistols?I agree. I went to FS in January (4 day defensive handgun) and thought is was very good and well run course. I became a member and so did my wife.
Great course.
Equipment.... The courses are really designed around striker fired pistols. You can use SA/DA or 1911 or a revolver, but you'll quickly see that 95% of the people are using a striker fired pistol and the drills and skills are built for that. It makes you think, "why use any other gun but a Glock or a XD?".

Overall great thread on your experience. I had a similar one and will be going back up in may. I enjoyed the time shooting with my friends and always open to learning something new especially when I have not been able to practice it at a range. The classes were packed with all types of indivudals from first time users, to experienced shooters and even some law enforcement including one of my friends that is a Sheriff. We have a blast together doing something we all like and added to our shooting experience. For some, it probably is not the right training, for others probably to basic, but you get out of if what you put into it and I am one that never thinks that I am too expereinced and or too good to shoot a few rounds down range while having someone correct me or encourage me. ebolaymonkey, thanks so much for the update on your trip can't wait to head back in May with my buddies again. Thanks everyone else for your input on the other training class offerings, FS is closer for me than up North.
Have a peaceful weekend."Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" [Matt 28:19]

My FAST time is 6:33 and for those that want to know: I was 2 points shy of shooting "distinguished" @ FS.We in Bangor, Maine now baby.Comment
