    m&p9 standard full size vs m&p 9pro

So I'm in the market for a new 9mm. Considering the m&p9 full size and the m&p9 pro. Any advise everyone?

Whats your purpose? The Pro is off-roster, so its harder (probably more $$ too) to come by.

I'd be mainly punching holes in paper and using it for IDPA. I figured it'd be a bit more pricey and harder to get. Just pondering if I should.be patient and try to find one. Or just get the standard full size model

          For competition, definitely the Pro!

If you do IDPA for carry practice rather than as a sport, the standard M&P is a far better choice as the "Pro" is a bit problematic as a practical carry gun. Get a new production M&P or upgrade with the Ajax trigger and you'll be a lot happier than you would have been doing IDPA with the original M&P trigger.

Good point rsmorgan. The main reason I'm interested in the pro is the longer barrell I'd think would make it more accurate. But I'm doing IDPA for fun that happens to be great defensive practice. Thanks for all the feedback everyone

I just picked up a M&P9c and like it enough I have been contemplating this as well. What's the upside to the pro?

I prefer the front-end weight of the Pro, so that is on my Wish List. But as I already know...good luck finding one. Even if you have an FFL that can SSE the gun, they seem to be available only in cycles.

Longer barrel/slide. Fiber optic front sight (makes for faster sight acquisition when outside), some minor level of trigger improvement over the stock M&P trigger.

It really isn't more accurate because of the longer barrel/slide. A M&P9c can be just as accurate

The forward weight balance might make it hang/point better for you, but it makes it a little slower to swing.

The longer sight radius makes errors in sight alignment more obvious, so you'll know it needs to be corrected...but some folks find it distracting.

A lot of the potential advantage depends on your level of skill.

I've shot them side by side and if I had a Pro model, I'd go with a thinner front sight blade...but that's just me

I went with a FS because I was too impatient to wait for a L...plus it was only $412...and I just added a .010" wide Dawson fiber optic front blade

Hickok45 is great with all handguns, I wish I could shoot as good as him. Plus he uses a weaver stance (which is rare, since everyone shoots isosceles or modern isosceles)

I want to grow up to be like Hickok. LOL!

You can tell though, that he shot this gun exceptionally well. He didn't have much bad things to say about it. I know he shoots just about everything like the pro that he is, but he was really enjoying the M&P Pro a lot.

Congrats to the OP on the M&P!
