It's in California...bet if you drove to the shop they'd sell it to you. Can't hurt to call and ask!

item says "Cannot be sold to California"

Store probably took it in and since they're a store, any thing that they sell has to be on the list. If it was being sold by a private seller they could do a PPT

Why didn't ya say? Here, drive down to San Jose and buy it.

I've seen I think 3 or 4 in Norcal in the past 2 months go up and get sold, they're around if you keep your ear to the ground. $675 isn't a great price, but it gets you the gun you want...

Thanks for the link. That's a bit steep but I'll see if he will take less.

The 586 6" was the first revolver I bought. Kick myself for selling it.

I believe if the gun dealer bought it and it's not a PPT, it can not be sold in CA exept to LE or another dealer.

                    here's one with my Python.

                      Consider a stainless 686 instead?

A dealer who owns a S&W 586 can't sell it in CA because it isn't on the DOJ list. However, the identical model 686 in stainless steel is on the list, in various configurations and barrel lengths, including the 6 inch barrel. Unless you're intent on a blued gun, why not just buy a 686, used or new?

The 686 is a great gun - very solid and accurate. Here is mine:

Search around the forums and you'll see the law and people's preferences laid out; not all S&W are created the same, there are two issues - MIM parts and a lawyer lock. RP1911 is obviously after a pre-lock 586, and I would hazard a guess also a pre-MIM - like many of us. These can only be found through consignment or PPT sales, and it is *not* the same as a new 586/686. He knows what he's looking for, as do I - hence that link to the GunMountain site, that's an original nodash 586 - pre-MIM, pre-lock.
