    HK USP Compact .45ACP

This'll be my third handgun, and probably last before I turn 21, seeing as my birthday is in October. For those of you who have HK USPs, how do you guys like it? And what are some things I'll definitely need to do with this handgun?

I was fondling it and loved where everything was located and operated, except the magazine release. It's sort of awkward with the whole push down thing. Never owned a handgun before with a magazine release like that, so it will take a long time to get used to.

Does the USP Compact .45ACP come stock with Tritium sights? I did not have a chance to see or ask.

I've been shooting a rental USP Compact .45 a lot lately, and I'm loving it. It took me awhile to get used to that mag release too, but now I see it as a fun deviation to the usual push-button-to-drop-mag thing.

A quick Google search shows that night sights are probably not the standard loadout for the USPc.
And on the third day, God created the Remington bolt-action rifle so that man could fight the dinosaurs. And the homosexuals.

Mine did not come with night-sights, and think that is in fact the norm. Else it is a great gun for all your needs. I had no problem hitting steel with it a 100 yards which I did not expect from a compact!

My brother has a USP 45c and I don't like it.

The trigger reset is bizarre, you have TWO clicks before it's fully reset and if you pull back after the first click the gun doesn't go bang. This is just completely unacceptable to me.

It has a REALLY high bore axis that makes aiming feel odd and has some pretty wicked trigger slap. The non standard magazine release is a another deal breaker, for a carry gun I want all my firearms to operate with the same manual of arms.

Ergo wise if you shoot it like a 1911 with your thumb on top of the safety it's okay but IMO he should have saved his money and bought an M&P.

I have a USPc in 9mm---very nice pistol---accurate and reliable---for the 45, I went with the newer, slimmer, HK 45C---certainly one of the very best smaller 45s. I don't understand all the fuss about the magazine release---once you get used to using your trigger finger to operate, it's the best!
I also don't have any trouble with the DA/SA trigger system on these pistols---OK, it's NOT A 1911---get over it! The trigger is designed to allow safe carry with the hammer down for the first shot---it's NOT a target trigger. Also the never-ending references to the "high-bore" design means almost nothing---the HK series is one of the softest shooting 9 mm or in 45---simply not an issue. Get one (or more) and enjoy!

The magazine release is fine if it's the only firearm you use and you train accordingly.

So you're saying that it has a crappy trigger that you pay a lot of money for but it's okay because.. why? It's not supposed to be good?

The high bore axis does matter to a lot of people. For me it bugs me because it's as if your sights are on freaking stilts. They are WAY higher than any other handgun I've used.

Use your trigger finger to drop the mag instead of your thumb.

I was looking at that before and from memory it does not come with night sights. If you're looking at the USPc, might want to consider the P2000 or maybe even the HK45

I have a USP in 9mm and after I put about 200 through- it's like butter. I honestly believe theses pistols need nothing more than they come with- maybe an ambi I safety if you are left handed... I like the angles... Grip size does not bother me, and I agree that it is not a target trigger. It is however, very accurate. I shoot Glocks as well, but as they say- TO EACH, HIS OWN.

My cousin had a Sigma and he loved that thing.

I have the USP .45 fullsize. Originally came DA/SA. I had it converted to the light LEM trigger with the manual safety lever removed. The ONLY thing to watch out for is if the slide doesn't lock back on the last round in a mag. If that happens, I mark that mag to see if it repeats. If so, change the mag spring to Wulff +10% springs. Other than that, no worries. Cleaning plus a light lube and you're done.

About the magazine release: I'm right-handed so I keep my trigger finger ready to go (safe spot on the slide), use the tip of my trigger-hand's middle finger. That digit naturally points downward when bent to touch the button so it's very easy to drop a mag that way. Fast and consistent. Far quicker than using the left side button. Keep in mind that the HK's are completely ambidextrous too.

I recently bought a Springfield Arms TRP 1911. My HK USP has a better trigger. Not by much, but noticeably better. The USP is about 4.5# pull.

And my USP has demonstrated such spectacular reliability that it is my bedside gun. If SHTF, the USP and my P2000sk .40 light LEM are my first choices. (It's a tie on reliability. Both 100%) After that, I'd reach for the TRP or 686 as both excellent guns, also 100% but just not 100% with as many rounds as the HK's.

My dad owns the usp 40c and usp 45c. I shot the .45 first time yesterday but I prefer the .40 in that handgun. Either way those guns are built to run I have yet to see an jam. They are very accurate for their size, but I dont think the standard models come with night sights. The first uspc was bought from a gun store in Washington who bought them from an le deparment. HK makes outstanding pistols, they just make you pay alot for it.

The magazine release is one of the best things about the gun. My thumb is not long enough to drop a magazine on a conventional release without altering my grip. With the USPs, I have become accustomed to using my strong right hand middle finger. Then, once your slide is locked back, you can pop in a new mag, and the slide will automatically chamber a round, locked and cocked due to the low tolerances. So for easy/speed of unloading and reloading, the USP takes the cake hands down.

No, they do not come stock with night sights.

You aren't even 21 yet. You don't know what a long time is. It won't take long to get used to. They are the best plastic compact production pistols.
