    CA CCW range test

Anyone have some idea as to what I can practice? I've seen several threads here and there about this and I know it depends on the instructor. Something like 6 shots at 3,5 and 7 yards 1 handed and 2 handed? Also a time contraint to it (off handed like in under 10 sec) all within the body mass of the target? The instructor I will be using is in corrections and is known to "go by the book" Wish I knew where to get a copy of that "book".... I am in Del Norte County.

Depends Where u live. Its up to The department that issues The permits. In fresno county I had to shoot 3 5 and 7 years. There is no time limit. I had to shoot off hand and also with just one handed too. I just put My ruger lcp on My permit last week and I shot just Fine. They were not all center mass But as Long as i was close and there was a group it didnt matter. Alot of it is how safe u r. Its not a Bulls eye contests it being safe and hitting your target. But it also depends on WHO your instutor is. Ymmv.

7 ring or better on a B-27 target @ 3 yards, 12 rounds in 30 seconds. Then 7 yards, 12 rounds also in 30 seconds. Last, 15 yards, 12 rounds in 45 seconds. This is what is used to be for LEO when I did POST years ago (if memory serves me correctly). If you can do this, pretty sure you will be good to go for a CCW.

Are you saying the instructor you chose refuses to tell you what the shooting test will be??

You need to find another instructor.

For my CCW qualification, the requirement is here: http://www.bsis.ca.gov/forms_pubs/firearms_manual.pdf

Starts at page 87 to 88.

no, he's not refusing to tell me, I just don't have any way to contact him outside his job. I think the above POST suggestion is what I'll work on, knowing the instructor is LEO I'm sure it's similar and that sounds resonable. Pretty sure I can do that with a few hours of practice. Just concerned because I'm not familar with the gun I will be using yet.

I did the City of Fresno qualification in mid-March. Consisted of firing 100 rounds, all from 7 yards. No time constraints, all with grip of your choice. Not sure what they were scoring for accuracy purposes. I think as long as the majority of the shots were in the 7 ring you were good to go.
If two people agree on everything, one of them isn't necessary.

Depends on the IA. Here in Sacramento for my ccw we did 3,5,7 yard and you had to score 40 out of 50 hits. we did shoot one handed strong side and one handed weak side and some kneeling. But what we do in sac will differ from Placerville, Eldorado county, Santa Barbara county, etc

San Bernardino is incredibly tough! 10 rounds from 3 yards, brutal... No draw, timed or scored.

Fresno City is 100 rounds total. If you have 1 to 3 on your permit, it's not 100 each weapon, but 100 total.

Fresno County is 50 total but you can put up to 4 on the permit. Again, 50 total.

At The Range, they have you shoot 25 at 7rd. 25 at 10yd, for County.

City is 25 ea. at 3-5-7-10 yds.

                    Pretty weak I think.

                      Similar to mine:
                      12 rounds - 3 yards
                      12 rounds - 7 yards, one handed
                      26 rounds - 15 yards

Handgun Shooting Academy Course of Fire

This is what I qualified on:

1 yard: strong side only (i.e. one hand) draw and double tap (3 Second limit), basically shooting from the hip.

5 yard: fully supported (two hand) draw, fire 5, reload, fire 5 (12 Second limit)

10 yard: fully supported (two hand) draw, fire 5 reload, fire 5 (15 Second limit)

15 yard: Standing fully supported draw, fire 5, reload and kneel or kneel and reload, fire 5 (18 second limit)

                        Total rounds: 32

Please note that this was for my El Dorado County Permit, but Cary (my instructor) informed me that this is the required course of fire for Placer County, which I think is more stringent than El Dorado County. Perhaps someone could confirm this.

I am by no means a "good shooter", but I managed to bungle the 15 yard course of fire by accidentally loading my first magazine 1 round short, requiring 2 reeloads (i.e 4 shots, OOOOPS!, $#@*&!, RELOAD, 5 shots, reload, 1 shot) and I somehow got in at around 15 seconds. Overall I kept all rounds within a 4"x6" area COM with one flier.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

                            CCW class

My class was yesterday. It was great day of fun and confirmation that I indeed was able to follow directions, drills and commands without any issues. The instructor was great. Mainly observed each person and helped those who needed it. It was relaxed and stress free and I got my paperwork signed off. One step closer!
