I'm currently looking in buying a Tac light for my XD40. I was debating in between the Surefire x300 or the Streamlight TLR-2 LED Light / Laser. Both are around the same price but with the TLR-2 you also get a laser. Any input will help.

Simple works.
Do you really need the laser?"The bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory...." -
I have shot a few night matches.
The laser is a significant advantage.Randall Rausch

+1 on the X400Originally posted by tankermanI think most folks bubba their AR's because they watch too many action movies, play too many video games and don't understand how to socialize properly, so they fantasize about being 'action hero's'. Kind of like little girls playing dress-up.Originally posted by Douglas711Is everybody stocking up on guys now? Just curious some gun prices seem to be getting high.Comment

We're just starting to see the newer models show up from SureFire, Insight, etc. I would expect to see some brighter, better stuff as they move to the newer and brighter LED emitters.

Yes, but the newer stuff from Insight & Streamlight hasn't come out yet (or not being shipped yet). A lot of people are price adverse on the X300/400, etc.
I do agree the 110lumens is plenty. The battery life is nice too.

I'd rather wait for one with a green laser before buying another.
I'm about ready to pull off my big heavy lights and lasers from my hd Ar-15 rail and just use a compact one. I only need them for SHTF and "what was that noise" scenarios anyway and for the duration I'm using it an "always on" switch instead of momentary ribbon switch for both laser and light would be fine."You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

I have the TLR-2 on my XD9. I think it's a great product that's priced well but, since I have the service model with a 4" barrel the light is actually longer than the end of the barrel by 3/4 of an inch. So, you end up with a lot of residue that sticks VERY well to the light and lens (the laser seems uneffected). I've put about 1000 rounds through the pistol with this attached. I noticed that my cleaning with CLP and a toothbrush (nylon bristle) has started removing the paint from the body. I've removed it from my pistol and will start carrying a handheld going forward...
This is a huge bummer since I think it's one of the best lights on the market - regardless of the price point!
So, if you want a TLR-2 in great condition except for some paint rubbing off, I've got a great deal for you!Comment

There's a limit to how bright you want a handgun light. You're not trying to see someone 150 yards away. You're mostly going to be using the light indoors (otherwise a handgun probably isn't the right tool for the job). You want something bright enough to light up the room and blind an intruder but you don't want to blind yourself if you light up a light colored wall.
I have a TLR-1 and it's a great light (pretty cheap too). From what I've seen Streamlight's quality is every bit as good as Surefire.Comment

The X300/X400 is actually pretty bright (110 lumens).
