      Intersting question ...

To ME , it might be worth more than some one else since I have an unfired one ( in the box ) and would like to buy one that I can shoot sometimes.

      In general , I would say 1000.00 - 1500.00

Research GunBroker. There is an option where you can view past sales of similar guns. $1000-$1500 Tops ..... Sounds about right. But without pictures you will not get much input and we can only guess at the condition ect.....

IMO you can't have too many 1911s!

How does a gun like that never make it past the test-firing phase?

If that is the case I can't see how you could go wrong getting a pristine Colt 1911 and a rifle. You can get it appraised at most gun stores as well after you buy it, I would assume it's worth $1,500 at the very least if not more. My uncle had a 1967 Colt Python .357 Magnum never fired and they appraised it for me at $1,400 but told me that it would be more if I had the original box and papers with it. We ended up not selling it and keeping it within the family.

Little wear on the front or is that glare?

How do you think this was never fired with that bit of wear? Definitely in great shape, though.

the colt label looks "off" to me -- too new. be aware that there are reproduction wood grain boxes and fake end labels. Reproduction paper inserts are also available.

If you buy it just take into account the gun itself. don't pay a premium for the box and papers. they look too "new" for a box from 1968.

From a collector standpoint technically it's a Government Model 1911a1's were actually only government issue and had some different parts such as the hammer.

                      Very nice find

as far as value goes, blue book of gun values shows government model pistols with "C" suffix valued between $1500 (95% condition) to $1700 (98% condition). I'd put yours in that area, more towards 95% with that front edge wear.

The box doesn't look authentic. BBl probably been touched up with cold Blue. The grips have been replaced with newer ones. Still very purdy. I wouldn't let it go for a penny less than $1,800.

Is there any writing on the box bottom? There is wear on the locking lugs of the bbl but the bbl tip has no discoloration. Just my 2 cents.
