Single-Action Only Colt Pythons...

So, I recently found out that California allows the transfer of SAO Pythons... I have one for sale in New Jersey, but if I were to sell it to someone in CA, how would I go about this? Is there a demand for such revolvers?

I only ask, because I think such a revolver would be more desired here due to its unique nature.

Welcome to Calguns and thank you for keeping California gun owners in mind. Yes a single action (SA) revolver would be fine in CA. Several options are available to you:

You could ship to any CA FFL if you have it converted to SA prior to shipping.

You could ship it to a CA FFL unconverted if they will perform the SA conversion before transferring it to the new owner.

You could ship to any CA FFL unconverted if the buyer is a CA LEO (they are exempt from the handgun roster).

As I understand it, gunsmiths capable of working on Colt revolvers are dwindling rapidly so you might have some research to do to determine how practical this method will be. As to the market for these revolvers, search Python in the Calguns Marketplace to see some prices and level of interest.

Right now, it is already an SAO... I don't know why the previous owner did this, but it is what it is.

Your work is almost done. You can sell to any CA buyer but you would need to have an FFL there ship it to an FFL here. There are a few FFL hoops they have to go through but your FFL should know what to do. If they don't, then they could contact the CA FFL the buyer has chosen and they should be able to fill them in.

neither CA nor federal law require that it be shipped FROM an FFL, just that it be shipped to an FFL. What NJ law requires, I dunno? Now, the CA receiving FFL may have a company policy to only accept shipments from other FFLs, but that is just a business policy, not a law.

And if it is shipped from an FFL, then CA requires the shipping FFL to get a CFLC approval number (just confirms that the CA FFL can receive firearms) before shipping it.
