    Star M30 9 MM issues.

    Hey all.

I have a Star M30 9mm, and I've always loved it. The weight, grip..everything. This gun is accurate as hell. My issue is that the gun has started to jam on ejection. The last time firing, I noticed that when I keep it wet it doesn't jam as often, but it is almost unshootable as is. Gun smith says it is solid, but it keeps jamming regardless of ammo.

I probably bought this gun in the early 90's. It sat parked for quite a while without shooting. It went through a thorough cleaning and lube prior to firing the last time, but i didn't make it through one mag before it jammed.

    What mags are you using?
I love my 30M, I have 2 orignal mags and 1 promag. Heard the 30M dont like promags. Mine seems fine.

Yea, I really like this gun. But it just frustrates me.

They are original mags. It came with two. It doesn't matter which one I use. I thought maybe I wasn't using the right ammo.

      Thanks for your response.

PS. I see you are a neighbor. I'm in Eastvale.

Is it failing to eject the empty case completely, aka stovepiping?

Does it happen mostly on the last round in the magazine or all the time?

How many rounds through the pistol?

Have you ever changed the recoil spring?

Star Model 30s (and the earlier 28) are stout and reliable pistols---my buddy has had a 28 for decades---runs very well. It could be something as simple as weak ammo---have tried several types of ammo? Have you cleaned under the extractor? Have checked the tension of the extractor spring? I find that over years, gunk can build-up under the extractor of any pistol with a lot of use. Good luck with yours.

                Thanks for the reply.

It can happen anytime. I have never changed the spring. I have shot a lot of rounds through the gun. I don't know how many.

I think you could be right. Is there a way to clean under the extractor without complete disassembly?

Cleaning under the extractor without taking apart is easy---just use a spray cleaner (cleaner may damage certain grips, you might want to take grips off) and scrub with stiff nylon toothbrush shaped brush---should take about a minute is all---good luck!

I also have a 30M its my favorite semi auto. You should post some pics, maybe we can point something out. I have only had that problem when I shoot very fast or when I use woolf ammo. I don't have the original mags.
                        good luck with the problem.
