    Glock 17 Gen 3 Feeding Issue thoughts/help?

    Hi all,

I have used Glock 22 and Glock 17 before. I got this one used recently and recently I have been running into this problem-too often, any thoughts? I never had this issue with my glock 22:

when I rack back the slide there is a round in the chamber stuck not allowing the next round feed into it. I can't rack back the slide, I need to release the mag and try and pry out the old round. This mostly happens with snap caps, but I have had one live round do this to me. Pictures attached.

If it's well used, maybe a good idea to just replace the extractor to start with.

Does it do the same if the mag is full, half full, almost empty?

Looks like you may have an extractor issue. The extractor is supposed to hook over the back of the snap cap and eject it. Have to taken the Glocks slide apart for any reason? Perhaps you installed the extractor spring assembly backward..?

      Just wondering.

The dummy round does not appear to be seated all the way into the chamber. Could this be the case? Was it difficult to remove the dummy round out of the chamber?

hmm, I have not taken the slide apart, other than taking the barrel/spring out to clean. With the snap cap jams, I have usually 3 snap caps in the mag, Snap the first, Load the second and snap and jam on 2nd/3rd. I only have 5 snap caps, so I could only safely test it apart from the range up to half full mag. The only live round jam I have had with this was with a junky reload I bought off calguns. I became more concerned when I saw it in the snap caps and figured I would ask. Ill take a look at the extractor spring when I get home. I have been able to fire factory ammo with no trouble, this mostly happens with the snap caps.

It was difficult to remove the snap cap from the chamber. For some reason it is inside barrel, when usually I rack the slide they fly out. I have to use a knife or my fingernail after the mag is removed to pull the dummy round from the barrel in the chamber

Your snap caps are too old. Over time, the sleeve from the case of the snap cap peels away from the bullet increasing the outer diameter. You can sand it down or just get a new set. I hope it helps.

thanks for the feedback, I will have to keep that in mind as they get older, I got these about 2 weeks ago from amazon, A-zoom 9mm. I will have to take a look at the snap caps when I get home to see if there is any peeling taking place. I have been dry firing practicing a lot at home to try and reduce my flinch when firing.

Take it to the range and have one of the range officers shoot it.

It may be that the extractor isn't doing it's job. But then you have to shoot it to see the real issue. Good luck.

If the weapon runs with real ammo, then no worries.

Personally, you don't need snap caps for a GLOCK. You can dry fire it 100,000 times without hurting anything.

Get rid of the Snap Caps and just cycle the slide to practice trigger technique.

I have to agree with Lumpia, shoot it at the range using factory ammo, not reloads. Real issues will show up at shooting the pistol, not cycling old dummy rounds.

Is the barrel clean? Could possibly be gunked up in the chamber. My snap caps fall right out when I tip the gun back.

                          Agreed.

To the OP - when you are dry fire practicing, you dont even need to rack the slide all the way back. In fact, you can rack the slide back far enough to reset the trigger without even ejecting the snap cap.

I will have to clean it, as I haven't recently and check again. Thanks for the tip

As for dry firing glock, I don't worry about it too much, I agree. However I saw this post:

and it causes me to at least *try* and use snap caps if they are nearby

buy new snap caps and try it again if it still don't work then change the extractor.
