So I recently picked up a brand new Glock 17 Gen 3 and was thinking about taking it out tomorrow to shoot if the weather permits. My question is, shouldi clean her first or just go shoot? I usually clean all my guns first, but some people have said to just shoot the glock out of the box. Thanks

As long as your pistol is in the condition it was shipped from the factory, you do NOT need to clean it. Inspect your bore, make sure nothing is in there, dirt, dust, etc. If that is fine, you just need to shoot it.
You will notice on your frame rails and on the interior of the slide there is a copper coloring. That is a grease applied from the factory for a reason. You want to shoot your Glock dry until that grease as worn away or is damn near gone. Usually that is between 300-600 rounds. After that point, then clean the entire pistol and enjoy."If it wears out, replace it. If it breaks, upgrade." -Cranky Air Force Vet.

ALWAYS CLEAN. That way, you get to know your gun at the same time.*********************

Field strip it.. Put it back together and then run a few hundred rounds through it..Comment

Glocks like most guns today are tested and shot before leaving the factory. They are good to shoot immediately. If the weapon was a shelf purchase, a simple field strip will reveal any problems related to previous customer handling. They do not need to be pre-cleaned, and the grease on the rails should remain on during the first few hundred rounds.Comment

Always inspect and clean any weapon before shooting. Trust but verify.sigpicNRA Life Member
