As for caliber, if you can only punch 10 holes, might as well make them as big as you can. 45acp IMO.

I've got both and love my 1911, but the glock is very easy to use. I'd say rent both and make your choice like so many others have.

No, 9mm so you can afford to shoot it more often, lighter recoil, and 9mm is the most universally used round around the world. If you like it, then get a .45.

If Glock is your choice, G17 is the no-brainer choice. I say 17 because the Armscor is also a full size gun.

I chose the CZ75 over the Glock because of the accuracy. It's apparent you love Glocks, so there is no point getting into a discussion because neither of us will change our views on the subject. In my opinion the appeal of the Glock is it's durability.

Those options are all over the place so answers will also like that as well.

1st handguns...recommend range rentals if you are only going to get one.

All in good fun...my recommendation (both of course):
                1911, full size 5" barrel at .45acp.
                Glock 19 (9mm).

This sticky post might help you as well.
This is the best answer yet and should be made a sticky for all to see!

How does that factor into this conversation.....we're talking cheap 1911 vs. Glock for first gun, right?

Ok these guys are just telling you to get all of them so let me tell you from a beginners perspective. Do not get a 1911 for your first gun. Get something barebones and easy to maintain such as a glock, springfield XD, or Smith and wesson m&p line. All of these are dead reliable and easy to maintain and are great starter guns. My first (and only) handgun so far is the glock 21. My wife who has never shot a gun in her life can shoot my big .45 so I would recommend that. You can also not go wrong with 9mm either. I would skip .40 and get either a 9mm or .45 in any of those brands/models. Go handle them at your range and fire the ones you like. I gurantee 99% of ranges have all of those guns I listed to rent. Good luck!

Implying half of those posts were not something along the lines of

                          "Congrats!"
                          or
                          "Nice!"

I own several of each.....if it was my first gun I would say go with the Glock. it will be much easier to maintain and shoot. + 40 is a little cheaper to shoot!

I shoot IDPA with my G and carry my compact 1911.....(yes i practice with both)......my compact is easier to carry and lighter weight but if the SHTF it would be the glock hands down!

Most of the further discussion beyond the clear concise answer is usually people just trying to convince others that the Penal Code/Case Law doesn't really apply because their uncle's friend's cousin's son-in-law works as a gardener for a retired judge from another state who might or might not have said he doesn't think it applies to a certain case that has absolutely nothing to do with the question the OP asked.

I recently just bought my first pistol and as nice as it would have been to get a 1911 I got a Glock. Gen 3 G35 and I love it. id still like to get a 1911 but i think im gunna end up with a few more Glocks first.
