    OC in Modesto, CA?

I am seriously considering starting to OC in light of all the information I have found here and on other sites recently. I live in Modesto and am just wondering if anyone has attempted OC in this town. Has anyone made contact with any Modesto LEOs while carrying or talked to anyone at the police station? I am on the verge of doing this but don't want to be thrown to the ground and shipped off to county lockup, lol.

Yes, there is a open carry advocate in Modesto. He has not reported any contact with police.

Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus of judges, police, prisons and gendarmes at the service of the plunderers, and treats the victim -- when he defends himself -- as a criminal. Bastiat

If you are scared of getting thrown on the group and shipped off to county lockup..... nevermind.... but you should contact your local LEO like how you are asking if anyone has contacted them. Instead of asking all of us internet people, just call them yourself or better yet you can always just show up at the PD and ask? You might want to read up on the laws of CA first since most of us know that it is legal to open carry but there are a couple of things that you need to look out for.

Didn't we just have a couple of threads about open carry recently?

Here is a good reference to get you up to speed on the applicable laws.

Be sure to look up the actual Penal Code yourself to fully understand the laws. The pamphlet is just a quick reference.

or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

I would have many of the things in the above linked pamphlet memorized so you can easily cite and tactfully and unemotionally quote PC/case law for the LEOs you may encounter when asking/telling them you'll be OCing. Some have recommended sending the chief a certified letter asking him to inform his watch commanders to reexplain 12025/6 to their patrol officers so they react properly if they come across you and your openly carried firearm.

                Just a thought.

I have already read all of the laws and the pamphlet. I planned to carry the pamphlet with me. I was planning on calling the police station but was just wondering if anyone had already done it. I guess I could have worded the last part better, I am not scared of being detained or anything, I just wanted to know if anyone had any encounters in this town so I would have an idea what the reaction was.

Walking in and letting them know that you will be doing it (OC) will give you an immediate idea of how they'll react.

Maybe leave the weapon at home until you've had your visit.

Yeah that would be a good idea as being armed with a loaded weapon in a public building is a no-no. (171b)
