    Why modify it?

Not on the CA roster, so it can't be imported into the state for civilian sale.

In theory very easy. Remove the cylinder. Remove the side plate, remove the hand. Remove the mainspring, remove the rebound lever and remove the hammer. Tap out the pin that holds the DA sear, remove it and the spring. Reassemble in reverse order. Takes 5 minutes. The bit of a challenge with the older style Colt DA revolvers is that the pin holding on the DA sear is generally tight as heck. It doesn't drop out like a Ruger or easily tap out like a Smith. Further, when you're whacking away you must be certain the hammer spur is not contacting the support surface. The hammer spur is wider than the rest of the hammer, you want to ensure the body of the hammer sits flat.

Separate issue, and I may be mistaken - but the Python should be made SA compliant before being brought into CA to your FFL; or at the least before he takes possession. How is he going to do the SA conversion himself but accomplish the above?

Do you mean "Single Shot" not "Single Action"

Two entirely different things. But maybe you do mean single action. Are single action revolvers roster exempt?

EDIT: Ah, OK, yes, single action revolvers are roster exempt! I learned something!
