My Club Range is a Ghost Town

It's the wildest thing. I've been going up to the range around 9am the past 4 Saturdays and I've almost always got the place to myself. The trap & skeet area's usually occupied, but not the rifle or pistol. Is everyone holding on to their ammo? Can't think of another reason.

Yes, that and prices are the reason. More range time and no waits, I love it.

Where's your home range? I go to Oaktree almost weekly and it's been fairly busy but I always find an open bay now. By early afternoon, it's hopping.

That's because no one wants to shoot their 223 ammo that cost $1.00/round.

Public ranges are a different story.

All the lanes were full at the local pistol club range last night, maybe a function of the fact that membership is up 25% since January 1. The nearest rifle range was also pretty full a couple weekends ago.

Certainly until very recently I cut my practice time in half, mostly because of uncertainty about replenishing ammo supplies. But this past week I'm having much less trouble finding ammo so am once again a little more willing to shoot.

The rifle range at Oaktree was full of .223 shooters on Sunday and someone was shooting their .50 bmg. At $3 a round, I wouldn't be doing much with that.

                Pistol bays were fulll.

I like shooting in private. I have range set-ups at home and at my non-profit. LAND is even more valuable than bullets.
9mm and 45acp are equally lousy. There's not a dime's worth of difference in REAL terminal ballistics. Get over it.

Fritz265, I used to go to Oaktree. Real nice folks. My club is up in the Angeles Forest, north of there.

? I was at the Concord USI MP range last Saturday. Every bench was taken prior to the 1pm Diablo members only open shoot.
Many people were turned away and had to retreat to the also packed public range. I've yet to see ghost town since last October on weekends.
What range are you shooting on again?

                        Private club?

I'm a member at Oaktree but would love to find a private club where I could have more privacy.

I shoot at Burro and west end on a weekly basis , I have talked to the range officer at each to see if there has been a decline in shooters due to ammunition shortage .each place has seen no decline in the number of shooters but do find way less brass on the ground . Recently had a incident almost turn into a fist fight over brass left on the ground by a 3rd person

Yes, a private club. Unfortunately they announced in the last meeting that membership was full with a handful of folks on the waiting list.

22popnsplat, funny, we just noticed that same thing last weekend. Less brass, that is.

My range has been quieter and folks have been in and out a lot quicker.
