Sig GSR Photos - lots o photos

Cleaned, lubed, and slide guided it yesterday. Of course on my first attempt at putting back together a 1911 i left a tiny idiot mark by the slide stop. oh well, stupid super stiff plunger.

Shot 200 rounds of S&B 45ACP, hiccuped twice because I was somehow riding the slide catch UP making the slide stop. Otherwise, gun was fine and was a pleasure to shoot. I hope I can figure out where to rest my left thumb.

Nice! Here's a pic of mine. Brand new, just took it out of the plastic and not cleaned up yet. Got a great deal on it off SigForum.

When I shoot a 1911, I usually place my left thumb on the flat part of the slide catch lever, right in front of the "platform." Might give it a try and see if it works for you.

I like what Sig did with the GSRs, blending 1911 with some Sig P-series style. I just wish they had a better reputation. I haven't been following it lately though, what's the latest word on their reliability? I have a friend in Sacramento that had a really nice one that was quite accurate, when it worked.

Well the very first models were good apparently then they dipped and a few years ago, it seems they fixed all the problems. The feed ramp on mine looks well polished.

          Very nice Sigs.
Now I've got to get one as well...o bother. Been thinking about one anyways.

                Since we're all showin off...

here's mine... dirty after a range session...

I had my trigger smithed down to about 3#... very nice. She runs real reliable, too.

The tritium inserts were a hassle on this, though...

After I break it in (2000 rounds?), I think I might get the trigger done as well. I like the solid trigger but could use a bit less creep and a cleaner break. Maybe it'll improve a tremendous amount after break in.

Who did you use for smithing?

Congrats on the GSR! For the slidestop, you can use a business card underneath the slidestop whole as a barrier against marring the finish. It takes a little getting used to pushing the slidestop up, and into the hole without making the "idiot mark." Practice makes perfect!

Yeah... I actually noticed my idiot marks are small but the range master I showed my GSR to... made a much bigger idiot mark higher on the slide.. SOB! He was trying to see if GSR parts share 1911 commonality for the most part.

                      It's really annoying me now.

This is a weird observation but I like the way the sound of a gun racks and I think the GSR has a nicer racking sound than my P226R. I think it might be because it's steel on steel instead of steel on aluminum alloy.

Shoot it and if you think it needs it, do it. I prefer to support local smiths, when possible.

Other observations... the OEM Novak mags drop free great but the CMC Powermags have a little resistance inserting and they do not drop free.

Comparing it to my P226R, the break is much nicer on the DA/SA P226R but I have about 3000 rounds through that pistol. The P226R has more travel though to get to the to breaking point, maybe time for a SRT and travel tuning. I also notice when cocking the hammer manually there seems to be two stages of the hammer.

Those look amazing... If I didn't already own some sweet shooting 1911s, the Sig would be in my want list...

That's the 98 year old design at work. Toggle link pivoting, barrel locking into the inside of the slide... you know... The things people spend big money to drive around in original muscle cars rather than new state of the art stuff.

I hope your range master lets you shoot for free now.

Unfortunately I discovered the new idiot marks after I got home

I think I'll eventually be putting these grips on it:

One of these at 8000 rpm, in a tunnel with the top down has no match in aural orgasms. I've always regretted selling mine. Short of a F430, it was the closest sound to a formula one car that the everyday joe could buy.
