Gen3 vs Gen4

I have a question for Glock operators only (specifically in G34 or G35). I'm very familiar with stock Glock ergonomics (20+yrs daily carry/use) and currently use a G22 Gen3.

I will be in the market for a G35 or G34 in the future as my competition pistol and when they become avilable again from the Glock (unless I find a smokin' deal on a used one). I realize the 9mm will recoil less, but I also know softer 40cal loads can be made/bought. I'm pretty sure I will stick with the Glock platform at this time due to muscle memory, thus I'm not really interested in being swayed to another make/platform at this time. I've never competed, so I might as well stick with what I'm familiar with, right?

So...with this background info:

Have you shot it back to back?

What do you use it for?

How long have you had it?

What ammo does it like for competition?

Plus or minus between the two?

I use 4th Gen for carry.. I like the grip more than 3rd gen.. as for the recoil.. feels same.

I carry both On and off duty.

Both are fine. I like the grip of the Gen2 much better.

I run a G35 for IDPA competitions. I use a Wolf conversion barrel so I shoot 9mm. I've shot it in both configurations. I like shooting it in 9mm more. Especially for comps. Lighter recoil. Easier to get back on target.
I've shot it back to back between the two configurations and like you said and already know the 9mm with stock ammo is going to be lighter recoil. Unless you reload some light loads for the 40 yourself.
I've never been a Glock guy but I really like this gun. I plan on adding a 17 and 19 as soon as I can. Maybe a 36 also.
Only thing I am still learning to get used to is the extended slide lock. Because I've been shooting 1911 more I have to adjust my grip so my right thumb doesn't rise on top of the slide lock and keep the gun from locking back on the last round. Is something I'm working on now. Other than that this is my new comp gun and I like it a lot.
Can't go wrong with either. Obviously if you get the 35 you can convert it to shoot 9mm, but not the other way around. There is obviously added cost that goes with that conversion but pretty minimal since all you need is the barrel, so figure about $100 extra to go that route.

Thanks for the input. There's a used G35/G3 in CG's classifieds now and I've PM'd the seller with my interest. I've heard of folks reverting back to the flatter stock G22 slide lock to help prevent what you're experiencing. The wolf barrel conversion is a great idea...I didn't think of that. I guess it's a matter of whether the optional backstrap of the G4 is worth the difference...or maybe just install a beaver tail on the G3? Decisions decisions lol.

I can only say we use Glock 23's. We had all gen 3's and were delivered a shipment of 12 gen 4's last year. Our Glock rep told us the dual recoil spring assembly reduced felt recoil. I ran thousands of rounds through the gen 4's and honestly cant tell the difference between them and the Gen 3 I've had since 2002. Just my $.02, still like Glock, just don't see it as being magically better.

^same for me.. I cannot tell the recoil difference between 3rd Gen vs 4th Gen. It feels the same.

Haven't shot a gen 4 yet.
Haven't had any issue with gen 2 or gen 3.
