Anyone here owning a Taurus PT92?

I am just wondering how good this gun is in terms of reliability, accuracy...It looks very similar to Beretta 92fs. I've read online and learned that it's either a hit or a miss....Please share your experiences with this firearm if you own one or happen to shoot it before. Thanks.

There was a point maybe 10 years ago I watcheded Lethal Weapon marathon and was convinced I wanted a 92fs. Went to the LGS to looked at them and spoke with an older friend of mine who is a gunsmith and services all the rentals. He said that the PT92 is actually built better and has many less issues than the Beretta. He said the Beretta's need replacement parts 4x more than the Taurus' and that if he was not the guy fixing all the rental guns he would not have believed it himself. The range will actually rent out the Taurus pistols when people ask for Beretta because most can't tell the difference.

I did not buy either and have grown to not care for them much after shooting them a few times. Nothing against the 92 style, it just does not feel right to me. You want the best 9mm steel pistol, get a CZ.

I inherited a pt99, a pt92 with the adjustable sight from 1986 that works perfectly fine, i actually picked up a pt92 last year. No complaints here

I am with Bug Splat on the CZ being the better gun..

I own 4 of the Beretta 92s and 2 of the 96s. And a few PT92s.

They all go bang every time. The fitting of the Beretta's is better than the PTs. If the PT is cheap enough. Buy it.
If not. Think about the possibility of a CZ.

I have owned a PT99 since 1992. It was my first pistol purchase when I turned 21. I still have it. I also have a PT101. That's the .40S&W version. Both have adjustable sights. I WILL NEVER BUY EITHER ONE AGAIN!! That's only because of the adjustable sights. The cross pin for the sights sheers off way too easily. It happened on my PT101. Some parts were lost when the sights came off. Sent slide to Taurus. (their requirement) They sent me a whole new slide. Great right? Wrong. There were some dimensional changes in the slide machining between my purchase and the time of replacement. Guide rod would not fit. Took almost a year to get a new guide rod from Taurus. That was a nightmare.
Fast forward to now. My FFL just received the PT92 I purchased from Auction Arms out of Texas. I explained everything to the seller about the mags, (17 rounders) and our CFLC program. He signed up for it and will now sell and ship to California! BIG YAY!! I DROS it this weekend. I have enjoyed my Taurus for 20 years. It's accurate, goes bang every time, and I have standard mags for it. I hope the new fixed sighted PT92 is just as good.

got a pt92fs. made in 92. sights are gone on it but it shoots straight always. likes any ammo i give it and is currently my trunk gun. I love my CZ but if I had to use it in a defense situation I don't want to give it up for 6 months. I can live without my Taurus. I also replaced barrel, and internals with italian beretta stuff.

I have both Taurus and Beretta. The Beretta fit my hand a bit better due to the Vertac model. And when you compare side by side, one can tell Beretta is slightly more refine (tool marks, fit and finish etc). But both are reliable and accurate. For the price, I won't complain about Taurus.



Just FYI, they are very close sibling but not identical twins. So beside the barrel, most parts are not interchangeable.

For my money, the PT92 is a better gun than the Beretta. Note the location of the safety; off the slide, out of the way, so it can't accidentally be engaged when working the slide. Like Sig, they figured out that the safety has no place on the operating area of the slide.

Had a PT92 for years, also a PT100 somebody made me a offer on the 92 & I sold it I still own the PT100 and shoot it every once and a while, no problems.

I have one since 1992. It has been good and reliable. Mine is particularly smooth and accurate. I can shoot it better than my glocks and Sigs. The frame is aluminum alloy, so the rails does wear faster than the slide which is steel.

It comes with life time warranty. For those complaining about the sights coming off, send it back to Taurus to have it fixed.

Got my PT-92 in Sept. Shot some hot 9mm reloads and sheared a locking block. Other than that, no complaints, still own it and shoot it often.

I have a PT99 I like the safety on the 99/92 because I started shooting a 1911 and the safety is in the same place. and it eats anything.

the Beretta has the same problem with the locking block. I keep an extra on on hand for my PT-99.
