Is this a C&R?

My uncle came across this pistol and knows little about it. I know it's a colt and a .38. It still has the firing pin on the hammer so I was wondering if it was a C&R or if you guys could give me some knowledge about it so I can pass it on. Thanks.

I know all pistols have to be registered, my uncle has no need for it and wanted to sell it. He was wondering more or less what it would be valued at. I am more familiar with semi-auto pistols, so I wasn't much help.

If he know little about it, It looks to be a Colt Official Police. They were good up close guns IMO. Never complain about owning a Colt. Value in my estimation is whatever he will take. I sold one for $300 not too long ago, but it wasn't in the condition this one appears to be in. I think I would need more info to give you a decent evaluation. Gun prices have gone up in our area, but value is a little dependent on your purpose. Are you collecting or are you going to shoot it/carry it? For collection purposes you want to get it as inexpensively as possible. For shooting/carrying potential of course you still want a fair price, but now we need to compare to newer models that you can obtain at the LGS. In other words, I wouldn't pay more than a new Smith or Ruger for an old Colt just to carry and shoot. I would, however if I were buying it as an investment.
