    Weapon Light Recommendation...

Figuring out which weapon light to purchase. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Viridian X5L or TLR-2S

Weapon light will be fitted for a Springfield Armory 1911 "MC Operator"

Have a tlr1-s myself and it seems to work well. Very versatile seeing as it can fit on a shotgun/rifle.

Not sure about the 2s though. Mine held up pretty well for 50-75 rounds no prob.

I know its not what you asked but I don't advocate attached lights, for a variety of reasons...

        Check this out:

Personally I like the Harries Hold which is easy to transition back and forth between the Modified FBI Hold as needed.

Like anything this has to be trained and practiced.

Good info but can I ask why?

I wouldn't clear a house with the white light on; the threat can train their gun on a corner and wait for you to round it. Briefly sweep the light to search for threats then turn it off. While the target is disoriented and still trying to figure out where you are, you give him the old Mozambique drill. I personally do this with the FBI hold.

Also, firearm safety tells you never to point your firearm at something you do not want to destroy. So if you are using your mounted light to sweep the room for targets, then you are breaking that rule.

funny all the cops I know have weapons light. of course they also have handhelds. so do I. but the weapons light allows you to have a free hand if you need it and also allows a two handed grip, I have shot 4 or 5 noight matches and the weapon mounted light is a huge HUGE advantage.

Streamlight makes awesome products for the pirce. and has a lifetime warranty. I have one of each othe four models, they all work great. personally I would get one with the laser just so you have that options. again night match work proves to me the light and laser is worth it.

As I am new to the culture of being a gun owner. My experience and technique is far from good. At this point, I rather have a weapon light, more accurately light/laser combo with a strobe feature, as I feel I'm more comfortable using 2 hands than 1 handed.

Thank you for the advice though.. very informative link.

SoulStealer... what grips are those? And I was wondering that the MC Operator has a front wrapparound grip. Did you feel any difference without front checkering?

I have both and I love the Gen 2 X5L! It's compact size is great and makes my TRL-1, 1s and TLR-2s seem so bulky! The green laser is awesome and easier to see for myself when compared to the red. I was skeptical about purchasing the Viridian at that price, but I loved the compact size of it. I initially chose the Viridian so I could mount it on my CZ P-01. I didn't like the way the TLR's protruded so far on the compact CZ and wasn't ready to do strictly a laser set up either, so the X5L was the perfect choice for myself. Awesome function and the aesthetics are equally awesome. I set it up on my Gen4 FDE 22 and I don't plan to take it off anytime soon. I guess I will just end up with strictly a Viridian laser combo on the P-01 after all haha

My suggestion would be to mount each light if you can and play with the functions and see which one best suits your needs. The great thing about the Streamlight is the ability to take them on and off quickly if you switch between night stand firearms. The Viridian mount is awesome, just takes a bit longer to take on and off.

I do have my Sig 1911 Extreme easily accessible. I'll mount the X5L on there and post a pic soon. I'd put it on my TRP, but it's the safe queen and I don't want to mark it up. That's what the Sig is for haha

1 Some firearms do not function as reliably with the added weight from the light

2 Some firearm lights are more finicky then hand held

3 Hand held's tail caps can (most of the time) be turned on and off faster without searching around for the switch. You do not want to be walking around with any light on all the time.

4 When a badguy see's a light coming at him guess where he is going to aim. Right at the light. This is where the FBI hold comes in handy. And also why I would never use a neck hold.

This is one of the many reasons you see police using this hold at traffic stops. Another is you can use the light as an impact weapon.

I'm sure there's more I'm not thinking of, but IMO those reasons are enough for me. That and it is what I have training in and have practiced with.

I have a TLR-2 on my G21 and its great. For a HD pistol, its hard to beat.

I was leaning toward the TLR for my XD 9mm but the Viridian has a green laser - much more visible in 'all' light situations, i.e. daytime so I guess it boils down to when you think you might need that laser. It is more costly though.

After a Raptor II and, now, a MC Operator, if I have to spend a few more $$$ as long as it is the right accessory. Then, I'm ok with it.

My cousin has Viridian on his G17. And a buddy has a Streamlight on his XD40. If I can will try both before deciding.
