    Smith & Wesson 4006

So earlier today a friend of mine asked me to come over and photograph his Smith & Wesson so he could sell it.

So I get to his house and we start talking and he mentions that he has already received a few lowball offers even without pictures. I told him his asking price was more than reasonable considering it has less than 1 box of ammo down the pipe and it comes with two magazines, the original cleaning kit, and all the original documentation in the original box.

Just kind of off the cuff, I jokingly said "Heck, I'd pay your asking price for it" to which he replied, "If you want to buy it, it's yours".

Now I just gotta find a place to PPT it...

We immediately went to Turners, But since neither of us have a 10 round magazine, they can not touch it. This is because they can not do the "legally required" safe handling demonstration. And since they do not have their law enforcement license, we can not use one of the original magazines.

Ahem - which will be staying with the original owner

It was unofficially suggested we try Ammo Bros. they have their law enforcement license so if they are so willing, they can loan us a magazine for the demonstration.

I'm looking forward to shooting this thing...

I have a soft spot in my heart for the S&W 4006. It was the first pistol I ever bought. I still have it, although it doesn't come out of the safe very often. 16 years later, still not a single jam. Great gun.

I love mine as well. It initially bought it because I have seen it's cousins the 659, 5906, and the 4506 on TV so often. Hundreds of rounds and zero malfunctions later, it is now my second favorite pistol behind my G22.

Aunt carried one for years, hated it. She said it's a boat anchor. The heft does tame a bit of the snappiness of the 40 cal round though.

No argument here that it's a boat anchor. Definitely a heavy gun, and I'd hate to have to carry one daily (I carry a G19). But, nonetheless, it was my first pistol, it's never malfunctioned, it's built like a tank, and like I said, i have a special place in my heart for mine.

I'm going to find a well priced 4006 one day and snag it. They look well built, i'm looking forward having one.... one day.

                Ha ha ha ha.

It is certainly much heavier than the XD subcompacts I plan on putting on my CCW when I apply, there is no doubt about that.

But as was mentioned above, that heft should absorb some of the snap of the .40 rounds.

If all goes well at the FFL tomorrow, I will start counting down from 10. If they refuse to do the paperwork because I will not be supplying a magazine I guess I will have to buy a ca compliant mag...

I wonder if any calgunners would have one I could borrow for the DROS process?
