Found my next pistol

Well, narrowed down to 2 anyway....

Found an indoor range close to my house that rents guns. Went out tonight and fired a bunch of rounds through the .22's and shotguns, then paid for a rental (not a bad deal, $15.00 all day and you can switch guns as often as you want, but you do have to buy ammo).

First rental shoot was the M&P 9mm. Absolutely loved it. Fed 50 rounds through it and was able to get 1.5-2" groupings shooting 5 at a time.

Switched over to a Sig .40 and fed 50 rounds through it. groupings were way off and not as accurate. Pretty sure it was me and not the gun as I have not shot anything larger than a .22 in 20 years.

I wanted to try the Sig 9mm but all the rentals were being cleaned (a group of Seals had come in earlier and used them for a couple hours training)..

I was able to stroke a Sig 9 that was for sale, but I really wanted to shoot it before I made the decision, and since I have 20 days until I can buy another handgun I do have some time to go back.

So I would love some opinions on these 9mm's (the M&P and the Sig). Anyone with experience with either or both any help would be appreciated. If I had to choose now it would be the M&P, but like I said I really want to (and am going to) go back and shoot the Sig before I plunk down the $$. Price is comparable (the Sig is about $50.00 more, not a big deal)

Which Sig model were you asking about? They have a few.

Apple vs orange here.. both fine weapon..
M&P is striker fire and Sig is DA/SA.
I am not a big fan of DA/SA so I will go with M&P.

Sig is little heavier than M&P as well.
Can't go wrong with either one.

Sig IS a little heavier, which helps perceived recoil and puts shots quickly back on target if you do shoot matches. But it's a LOT more to carry for 10 hours at a time inside your waistband. This choice should come down to the gun's needed role. Agree, you can't go wrong with either one.

I have both a M&P and a Sig Sauer. If I were you, i would buy the Sig first before you are force to buy the Cailfornia "safe gun" with ugly LCI to be California certified. You can always buy a M&P later!

I liked my M&P 9mm FS so much that I bought a compact, too. My APEX DCAEK trigger kits just came in and I'm excited to see what these guns' potential can be.

I haven't shot the Sig 226 or 2022 platform, but I did hold the 2022 and didn't like the grip all that much.

It might be worth it to you to rent the Glock 17 and Springfield XD 9 before you make your final decision. All of the guns have their positives and their quirks as well.

226 is aluminum frame unless it is stainless.Not all steel.

I am Not a big fan of Striker Fire Pistols.
And the DA/SA has to have one hell of a trigger for me to enjoy it.
But those are Both fine pistols you would do well with either one.
Or you could just get yourself a CZ 75b.

Rent or take a friend who owns a CZ to shoot, then you can decide.

As mentioned above they are very different styles of pistols. M&P triggers left a lot to be desired for me but, you can drop in an APEX kit for $100 i think. The sig will be heavier so probably less recoil but, maybe a little less comfortable to carry. You will likely be very happy with either.

Seems like a simple problem...just buy both.

Thanks for the help. All the sales guys at the shop (this range also has a fully stocked shop attached to it) said that I would love either.

Forgot about the whole CA "safety" thing with the Sig, will have to consider that as well.

I am going back today to feed some rounds through the Sig and then make up my mind.

I really like the feel of the m&p's but haven't tried a sig so can't give much input there...
