Are you looking for a range queen to show off to your friends or a fighting pistol? Nothing is sexier than a custom done 1911. On the other hand a 1911 would not make it on my top 10 list of 45ACP pistol to take to war.

Harrison is awesome if you haven't used him before.

Sell what you have, and buy one with more bells and whistles. Then, limit your upgrades to drop-in, non gunsmithing upgrades.... that way you don't hurt your investment for future resale.

Thats a good base gun! I had Wilson build my whole gun now it has a lifetime warranty through them they don't even consider it a Colt Anymore to them its one of theirs! So if money is an issue pick a reputable shop and have them do it you wont regret it.

I say send it in for custom work. Have them build it to your desires.

You could be looking for the "perfect" 1911 forever and in the long run buying/selling costs you time and money and you still won't be satisfied.
