    Question about Glock 23 grip

I just picked up a Gen 2 Glock 23. Took it to the range and it shoots just like a Glock (a good thing IMO). What I noticed about this is there is a small quarter-moon bit of polymer missing from the FRONT of the grip. From what I've read...right or worng...is that this notch is to be used in conjunction with the rear gap to rip non-drop-free mags out in the case of a jam. Makes sense since the Gen 2 was made when mags were transitioning, I believe.

It's the only Glock I have that has this and I don't really like it at all. It's a pretty sharp bit of machining and it cuts into the flesh side of my pinky. It would appear my options are: A) get a Gen 3 or 4; B) file the sharp edge down; or C)??

I'm in the process of applying for my CCW and want this gun on my application. I take a Front Site course in 12 days and my CCW course in 16 days, so DROS-ing a new one isn't ideal since I want to spend more time practicing with it. Filing it down would take the bite out of it, but my pinky would still feel a little "off" sitting on top of the gap.

    Any ideas?

is this the type of grip you are referring to?

I stuck one of these on and it feels great...no problems.
I believe it was a Hogue grip.

Yup, that's it. I do use the Hogue Universal on a few handguns but I shot the G23 well w/o it. I plan to carry the G23 OWB on the side and a G27 IWB in front (not at same time). I don't like the idea of the increasing the bulk of the grip on the G23, nor the idea of the rubber catching on clothing. Haven't tried a Hogue on the G23, so I don't know if either of those concerns are valid.

If I recall this was specific for the 23, maybe a couple of other models but not a universal.

good luck with your front site course, should be fun!!

          A couple of points:

          1. Std. Gen2 G23 grip.
          2. Hit it with some 400-600 grit wet/dry sandpaper to smooth the edges, then buff it with green scotch-brite to blend the finish.
          3. You shouldn't grip a Glock pistol with your "pinky" in the first place, it will contribute to Left-Low shooting. Just touch the grip, that's it.

I think that's standard gen-2 grip... wish they kept it since even drop-free mags can get jammed up with a double-feed. The notch helps in putting your thumb there to rip it out. They did away with it since the gen-3 grip upgrade.

I didn't even realize my Gen 2 G21 has the same notch. Since it's a larger grip, my pinky isn't in contact with it. It's also not as sharp, so a little sand paper should help the G23.

There's not really a way for my pinky to not touch it since my support hand wraps around my storng hand pushing the shooting pinky into the grip. I came up with a completely different grip where my pinky is actually the last finger in the grip. Thumb up, then trigger finger, then index/ring wrapped with support hand, and shooting hand pinky at the bottom of the stack. It's actually a stonger grip than the one I use. It also completely mitigates not having a pinky at all on the G27. Need to spend some time with it at the range.

Fill it with Sugru and smooth it out while it is still soft

Didn't realize my gen 3 G35 has it too. LOL. Under a Hogue grip.

Found these guys. Look like they'll be the ticket for the G23. Thanks for the other ideas/info.

                    That's what I use on my Gen 3 G22.
The Pierce figer groove extensions also come with a piece to fill in that gap, I have those on my Gen 2 G23.

If it's just a mold line, then sand it off. The half moon cut is supposed to be there. I have seen guys make the same cut on the left side of the frame at the bottom.
