Preference? Kimber Ultra Carry II or Colt Defender series 90.Good or bad expe...

I own a few of each and prefer the Colt. defender. Colt has a better warranty, no mim parts, is 2 oz lighter, and allows for a stronger 3 finger grip. Otherwise identical size and accuracy. The defender is basically a bigger version of the Colt Mustang Pocketlite ... And a good bit smaller than the Commander XSE alloy version. Together they make a great 3 gun collection.

I thought about getting the Kimber ultra carry II when first looking at 1911s but ended up getting a COLT Defender. I'm more than happy with the purchase. I have yet to have a failure of any kind with it, and it feeds jhp no problem and is my daily carry gun. I used to have an EMP but sold it because I was way more accurate with the Defender. Only change I made was putting some slim grips for better concealment and they just fit my hands better.
I like my Defender so much I just jailed a Colt combat commander xse

Was considering a very nice Officer's ACP at the LGS for a fair price. I'm a little hesitant to buy because of the reliability issues that I've heard about with this model. Most people speak highly of the Defender and I was wondering what makes it different from the Officer's model? The one I was looking at was a Series 80.

The main 2 differences are the Defender has a 1/2" shorter bbl and the Defender has an alluminum alloy frame vs. the Officers steel frame

I owned both. The Ultra Carry II Stainless had 4k rounds on it when the frame cracked. FRAME, not slide. Kimber replaced it free of charge and I promptly sold the gun. The Colt Defender had over 7k rounds on it and was working fine when I sold it. Replaced both with a Colt OACP Stainless and heavily customized.
The Colt Defender was as accurate as the Kimber and was built better, as evidenced by the fact that it did not fail.
Ultimately, for a carry gun, which is what these were to me, neither was reliable enough. The 3-inch 1911s just do not have the cycle reliability for staking your life on them.

Oops - I missed this question from a few months back. But the answer is "no". My Defender has functioned perfectly with Gold Dot, TAP, 185 SWC and everything I've put through it. I spent last weekend plinking with it in OR and it zipped through about 250 rounds with no stopping. And the range has a 12" steel plate at 100 yds. I'd like to say I "banged the gong" on every shot but sometimes I only scared it.
