    Ruger Mk III Modifications

Hello Calguns! I have a Ruger Mk III bull barrel model, but I suddenly don't like the grip. I've read that the Mk III's actual receiver is the tube that holds the slide, and not the grip frame. Can I take a Mk III 22/45 grip frame and swap it with the regular Mk III grip frame? If I can, does anyone know where I might find one for sale? Alternatively, does anyone know of any rubber slip-on grips that work well for the regular Mk III?

Finding a grip frame is nearly impossible as ruger does not sell them. The 22/45 grip frame will fit though.

Try a pachmayr or hogue grip, i love the pachmayrs on my MKIII

I don't think 22/45 are not compatible with Mark III because of the magazine angle.

      Here's what you need:

You can buy just the lower frame from www.e-gunparts.com . The 22/45 frame is inexpensive because they're composite. Most of the FCG should be able to be swapped over, but there are some parts that aren't the same like the bolt release and safety.

It's not a slip-on grip, but I've got a Hogue wrap-around that has finger-grooves and a thunbrest. Installs quickly with a screwdriver and they are inexpensive.

Pic of them on my MkIII:

E-gun has been out of stock for as long as i can remember.

The mags are different but its just a baseplate swap. The grip frames can be swapped around.

Kicking rad! Thanks for the input! Numrich doesn't have the 22/45 frame listed, but that Hogue wrap-around looks awesome. The Volquartsen also looks to be a good option. What is the model number of the Hogue grip? I've only ever seen Hogue grips for the Mk II before.

                Johhny,

Hogue's website says the model number is: 82060. Their rubber grips for the Mark II also fit the Mark III.

I can't speak for the VQ grips, but the Hogue's get the job done nicely for approx $20, compared to over $50 for the VQ grips.
