    G17 sight help

    Hello,
I have a g17 and what to replace the sights on it soon. I have been seeing night sights and was thinking about going that route . Any pros or cons on them for all around shooting?
    Who's should I look into?
Thanks for any help you all can give me.

It's about 90% personal preference. For me, I use TruGlow TFOs because with my eyes, they work better than a couple others I've tried. Other night sights work great in the dark and great in the daylight, but basically disappear low light/heavy shade. TFOs work great in the shade, for my old eyes.

I liked the stock Glock sight picture but I hated the plastic sights that came with the gun. I replaced the rear with Glock's steel version. For the front, I ordered an Ameriglo night sight which has bright orange paint surrounding the tritium vial for better visibility during the day.

It really comes down to personal preference but one piece of advice I'll give you is to make sure that the sights you order are the correct height. If you get sights made for a G21 then your point of impact will be off since the sights for .45 models are different in height.

I like these ameriglo. They have a really bright orange front sight for day and then stacked tritium for night time. The rear is angled so you can rack the pistol with one hand off your belt or what not if your support hand is injured.

I recently installed Meprolight tritium front n rear. Major improvement over stock sights.

Listen man.. Glow in the dark sights are cool & all, but unless your eyes SUCK, or you do a lot of low light tactical covert operations, they are unneccessary. Not to mention expensive. If you want PRECISION accuracy, you want plain black sights. If it's for home defense, attach a light.

My all time favorite Glock sights are the AMERIGLO DEFOOR TACTICALS. Same exact height as factory sights, BUT they are METAL, ALL BLACK, and most importantly (to me), the FRONT SIGHT is .115" THICK. That's thinner than the factory front. This means you can aim with more precision. The front is also serrated, so it's easy to focus on. They run like $40 tops. Best sights out there. Plus Kyle Defoor designed them, and he's a goooood shot.

Choosing sights should be about notch width and front thickness AS WELL AS whether you want to go fiber, tritium, bead, or black..

I've always been fond of Heinie Straight Eights. Dot over dot is simpler than three dot, and the daytime look of the dots is more subdued than other dots (meaning you can focus better on the edges of the front sights). Other pluses include non-glare serrated front and rear, optional wide cut rear notch, and optional "Ledge" design for one-handed manipulations. Good stuff.

                    +1 on Defoor.
                    Install them and you're done.

Sights are personal, whater gives you the most confidence. For carry/SD, night sights, I prefer Trijicons, for competition/target, Heines or Dawson Precision, either black on black or fiber optic front. Night sights are not an advantage in competition, and you still need a weapon mounted light it ID targets/threats.

I just picked up a Trijicon HD for my Glock 17 Gen 4 FDE in Orange Outline Model number GL101O
I had these sights on my S&W M&P 45 and find them to be the best for me. I like the back of the sights all dark with the front to be bright easier to find your sight picture faster. Also at night the sights will glow green rear and with a big Orange glow in the front and a green center again to find a fast sight picture..

I just got mine in the mail today planning on taking them to my gunsmith to be put on Tuesday I will post pictures when I get it back within 24-hours..

If for HD, also consider a laser. I have CT's on all my HD guns, incl. my Gen4 G17...
