    PMC and Beretta 92fs

So this weekend I took out my brand new Beretta 92fs. It was a pretty crappy trip. I took 200 rounds of PMC 9mm and every other round was a FTF, at first I thought, ok its the gun, its new gata run it a few times to get the kinks out. But after FTF after FTF I started to get very concerned. I cleaned the pistol before I took it to the range, oiled it. It came with two magazines, both where having the same issue. That day I happen to be next to a guy who also had a Beretta and he also had PMC 9mm and every time I looked over he kept having the same problem. I finally spoke to him about it and he said PMC is to weak for the Beretta, he busted out some S&B 9mm and ran a mag clean with no FTF. So I take it that the ammo is not the best for break in. I'm pretty bummed out about it, I bought this pistol hearing it eats everything,my cousins buddy has a Beretta and it eats everything. I'm about to buy some S&B soon and run it with that and see how it does. Has anyone else had this issue before?

I used to own a 92fs as well but never had any issues like that. Did the FTF cartridges have primer stamps on them? If so did it look like a light strike compared to the non-FTF rounds?

I did not check that, I should have though. Yeah I find it very odd that the Beretta would do that, I really don't want to blame the gun just yet, I don't want to deal with warranty until I have to. I wrote Beretta and i'm still waiting for their reply, I asked them for any possible trouble shooting, no pun intended, I can do

Could just be brass and carbon fouling or crud from the manufacturing process. Did you break it down and clean it before taking it to the range?

I did, maybe I didn't do to good of a job, this is my 1st pistol, so i'm trying to rule out the handgun and place the FTF on ammo or myself. I did have one mag run clean with 10 full rounds, I also did a test. I loaded a mag with 1 round, bang, went off, slide catches open, ok load a mag with 2 rounds, bang, bang, everything good, slide holds open, again with 3 rounds, perfect, after putting 4 rounds in the magazine, FTF all over the place. I forgot that I did this, this might shed some light on the issue

Yeah, thats why im worried, I'm thinking I just got a fluke, it happens, I'm sure Beretta will take care of it but I want to do everything possible myself before bugging them.

Both of my Beretta's have eaten everything I've ever fed them, even now with the 9mm conversion in my .40 it eats all ammo. I've never had any kind of failure in either of the Beretta's I've ever owned (not including the .22 conversion).

I'd say to give it a very thorough cleaning, grease the rails and give it another range day.

By FTF do you mean failure to fire or failure to feed?

I use PMC in my 92fs without a problem. Initially had feeding problems and stovepipes, but it was me, not the gun. Wasn't locking out my elbows completely, so the blowback wasn't cylcing the slide completely. After changing my shooting mechanics, haven't had a single issue using either PMC, Remmington or CCI Blazer rounds. Obviously, a failure to fire would be a differnt solution.

Fail to feed, I thought I might have been limp wristing, so I held the pistol very tight and still had the same issue

I had a couple problems initially, then the local range guy showed me that it was because of not racking the slide properly initially. No problems since.

really? how am I supposed to rack the slide back? I just grab it with my index and thumb fingers, pull back and let go, am I doing something wrong?

The guys at the range where I bought the 92fs said Berettas don't need any break in, so when I bought it, I took it out of the box ran 50 rounds of Federal, 50 rounds of Pmc, 50 rounds of Blazer, 50 rounds of Winchester white box using the 2 factory 10 round mags to see if it was picky about ammo - it had absolutely no issues with any of it. Still don't have many rounds through it yet (probably around 700 or so), but haven't had any issues at all with any ammo (although I've only shot 115gr through it so far).

I also haven't even changed out the mainspring for a 'D' spring (which might reduce the amount of power to cycle the slide), so it's still completely stock and so far hasn't missed a beat.

Sounds like I need to call Beretta and have this sent in.

Yeah, doing that can soften the slide going into battery for Berettas due to avoiding slide bite. Best way to release the slide for the 92/M9 is to hit the slide lock/release. Yes, this is opposite 1911s and other firearms.
